Stop stockpiling

The stockpiling of some people has been so selfish. It makes me worry for our nation. Especially when people cannot appreciate that NHS workers and the elderly need to stockpile more than us as they are less able to go to the shops!3

The supermarkets should now think of closing early in the evening for a couple of hours whilst they restock and then reopen for the rest of the night solely for NHS staff. They could hold back deliveries to facilitate this.0

A friend of mine (who is in the at risk group) went to Tesco this morning as usual with her 83 year old neighbour. They went as they do every Friday at 8am. There was virtually nothing on the shelves! She said she pitied the shoppers arriving for the so called Silver Hour at 9am as there was nothing left for them.0

Two hand baskets and max spend of £100.Don't tar us all with the same brush. I most certainly am not. In fact it's the other way round. I rely on home deliveries, have done for some time. Just try to reserve a delivery slot. All are unavailable well into April. My "family" are having to buy stuff for me, when available, and make a 10 miles journey to deliver.I do agree fully with that last sentence though.0

It is not so much a fear of no food available, but not being able to go out and buy that food if there is extended self isolation or lock down periods. Most people don't trust any woolly pronouncements that food would be deliveredIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Well good news that Tesco will be opening one hour early on Sunday for us. One less thing to worry about.1

I haven’t been able to get toilet roll, eggs or bread in over a week. I’ve given up going to supermarkets as the queues and crowds last time was enough for me and crowded supermarket will now be places to catch the infection.
I never stockpiled and like many others am now going without what we previously classed as essentials due to panic buying.
I’ve been managing to get milk and food from my local butcher but have had to make major changes to way I eat.
Apparently in Italy the panic buying stopped eventually so hopefully it will here.
I feel so sorry for the elderly, vulnerable and key workers.3 -

It'd be interesting to know how much stockpiled food will go uneaten due to it being out of date or being stale or mouldy.I think a better explanation of what being in "lock down" actually involves would help. Stockpiling because you are not allowed out makes sense but as food shops will remain open and shopping for food is allowed there is no need to stockpile.2

The behaviour of some is poor, to put it mildly but the supposed reason why there hasn't been panic buying in Italy is because the shelves have been kept full. When I look at empty shelves I think, like others I expect, that this might go on for some time. I see supermarkets are seeking more workers and delivery drivers so perhaps the shelves will get restocked more quickly and people will have that worry removed. Sadly there will always be a few who simply can't behave decently.2
