Exporting cars from Shanghai to Europe, suggests that Tesla isn't making the expected inroads into the local Chinese market in terms of sales volume. Likewise has concerns over VW.  A long established reputable European brand.  Germans do tend to buy German.

regarding VW, I think that they might just survive through the massive disruption that is starting in their industry. They've committed to BEVs which and they are investing heavily in Elctrify America. Mercedes and in particular BMW and Audi's futures look a lot bleaker.

Audi is part of the VW group.

Yes, I know. The "A" in VAG is Audi. Audi's approach to BEVs seems completely out of whack with VWs and they seem to be determined to be the last horse-and-cart salesguy in town when everyone is buying those new-fangled Model T things.

I wonder what the fair value of the 3 billion mile plus of data collected by Tesla in the last decade is.
Some value it at over $1 trillion.
Not yet fully in the share price IMHO.
I never understand this angle. There are millions and millions of smart phones out there storing the same data, vastly more than the number of Teslas, and these smart phones also go wherever the user hold its, not just in a car. And they store more info about the user. So if the Tesla value of data is $1 trillion, the phone date is 1000s more valuable.

    Musk must be smoking something.
Not a stock for widows or orphans.
Any other good tips for us?

    :-)
Does Tesla now finally have competition in market place in the form of the VW ID3?   Quality German engineering vs US innovative technology.

PS. I leave tipping to the speculators. Prefer sensible observation myself to playground antics.

Current feedback from VW on ID.3 sales is very disappointing in that its down from their forecasts about a year ago. I dare say their dealers arent trying very hard to sell it since first they probably got many years FUD on EVs they've been telling customers they will have to forget (and get over themselves) and second its not going to have the nice ongoing revenue stream for spare parts that their ICE cars do and thats where most of their profits lie, in the service department.

    Volkswagen AG

AG behind a name is similar to PLC in the UK.

Who is storing, processing and analysing those billions of smart phone data and for what purpose?

50, 500, 50000 Teslas go from A to B - recorded, stored, analysed by Tesla = best route determined.
Any Tesla to now go from A to B has the detail of the best route.

How to recognise a simple Stop Sign, impossible.
Unless the stop sign has previously been recorded, stored, tagged, processed thousands of times in all conditions.

Tesla is building the worlds largest database of real time images and connecting over 1 million cars to that database.

A competitor does not have the data.

Back in April I took punts on Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Tesla.

I really dont have the nerve for S&S but I had a lot of very smart people telling me Id be crazy not to so I reluntatnly moved around £10K from my Marcus account into Revolut and then susequently a bit more especially for Amazon and Microsoft.

I got out completely on Aug 14th with good results for all, small loss on TESLA. But Im sleeping again at night now !

TESLA will make  alot of investors very rich one day, he has the backing and brains to solve the worlds biggest problems, but I wont be one of them

Thanks, very interesting.  I did a bit of quick catch up reading, and yes some have valued the data highly due to the impact on self driving, autonomy etc.

The best thing I read was from musk himself 18 months ago where he states that autonomous driving is the main driver for the company, not margins on selling cars, and will push the company to a $500bn valuation. I did laugh as that today's value is not far off that already, and the cars have trouble going round a roundabout. But does that mean that the future benefit of this data, autonomy etc is already built in to the share price?
