I know Tesla are making improvements in those areas. I think with the help of Sandy Munro.

The paint and finish is a bit of a contentious bone, though no other car maker gets the scrutiny that Tesla does in this area.
US factory output is not up to the quality of majority of European and Japanese high end manufacturers. Spend big bucks you expect a quality finish. That's down to internal quality control. Seems as if there's going to be a cost for Tesla to bear. Yanks are a litigious race.

Reviews on the new VW ID.3 are not very complementary on fit and finish either. Somewhat surprising given you wouldn't expect them to have the sort of learning curve that Tesla did a few years ago starting from scratch.
Those initial complaints about the Model 3 seem largely to have gone now (obviously there will always be the odd few with any car) and the media like to dredge up news that's derogatory about Tesla (The LA Times in particular perhaps because it's owner has a competitive business in China) so there's a bias in reporting that likely doesn't reflect the underlying statistics. Someone has a badly finished Tesla, that's a news item, someone has a badly finished other make, not news.
Same with accidents, if there's a Tesla involved whether at fault or not it's mentioned, otherwise usually not. Someone drives into a blameless Tesla and the news is "Tesla involved in accident" , someone drives into another make and the news is car crash in XYZ town" if that's even reported at all.  And what won't be reported in the former is "Tesla driver walks away unscathed from crash which would have Killed or injured someone in another make of car".

Survey after survey shows that Tesla owners are among the most satisfied with their purchases so the facts suggest otherwise.

Given that the VW group in terms of cars alone encompasses  VW, Audi, SEAT, SKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche. There's a wealth of expertise within the group as to how design and build cars.

Exactly.  Hence why the basic issues with paint and panel gaps on the ID.3 are surprising. Less surprising the software issues.

    Thread drift....
Trevor Milton has stepped down as CEO of Nikola. I wonder if he is now frantically searching for a country with no extradition agreement with the US......

"stepped down" for values of "get out".

I think they will implode now, TM with his outrageous lying was the main thing responsible for the high share price and keeping it afloat. With the full attention of everyone on them now there wont be any more outrageous lies, and that was the main product of Nikola. (they also sell tshirts and hats)

They are also shortly going to run out of money, at $20M a pop you dont get many H2 stations out of $700M (and certainly not the 700 they pledged ) especially when you've already pledged that $700M (all their cash) to GM to build the Badger and you need to build a factory and you need to pay $20M a time for Semi and Badger prototypes. All those companies will want their cash up front before they ship anything off their premises now.

And a capital raise is out of the question, the share price will surely fall off a cliff*. Although going downhill is something they are good at, so there's that.

    * although theres always the possibility that a bunch of mugs will jump in thinking with TM out of the way all will be rosy. Not understanding they have nothing.

Indeed. They're toast now. Theranos Ver 2.0 Nikola will implode and we may yet see TM on federal fraud charges.

I read that Trevor is on the run out of the USA.
I don't think so.  That was people seeing his plane went to Austria. But apparently he wasn't on if. Austria has an extradition treaty with US so no point running there.

GM now look like chumps but as someone else said, well there's no change there then so no harm done. Effectively they were building their own truck with a Nikola look (but all GM components) with Nicolas money. For £2Bn in stock and £700M in cash. Except there won't be any cash and the stock is now worth half what it was .
So, maybe they won't build it now. Give them a few months to gracefully back out. Technical difficulties, focussing on GM product, whatever.

I'm sure that the deal was to get GM access to Nikola's EV tax credits.
