Been watching and learning from this thread for a while, and would finally like to post a good news story: we were supposed to fly from Manchester to Toronto at the end of June. Received vouchers from Air Transat and the usual refusal to offer a refund (via Twitter DM). Contacted my credit card supplier (Amazon Mastercard operated by NewDay) and they advised a chargeback. Submitted the information, money was credited very quickly (two or three days) and on Friday the 45 days were over. Called NewDay today and they confirmed that's the end of it.
Interestingly we never heard from Air Transat about refunds for outbound flight. Maybe they'd already given up on us.
Very pleased, obviously, and impressed with the service from NewDay. Hope it all works out for other people here. If you're hesitating about a chargeback, just go for it, it's easy and there's nothing to lose.
I wonder if Air Transat will still accept my vouchers ;)
  • Good news indeed! A couple of people on the Air Transat refund Facebook group have also passed the 45 day mark without a chargeback challenge from the airline. Looks as if they are giving up, or can't keep up with the paper work. Looking forward to 24th August, when our 45 days will be up.

I trust most (hopefully all) people chasing Air Transat are part of the Facebook group (Air Transat refund group).

just to update any that are not, today I was informed my chargeback was successful with NO appeal from Air Transat.

    details,
chargeback claim submitted on the 10.May.
chargeback acknowledged by Tesco credit card on the 18.May.

Tesco paid out on the 16.June.2020 stating Air Transat have 45 days to appeal this.
Friday.31.July ( was the 45th day, ** not working days either).

Earlier today I spoke toTesco who confirmed that Air Transat had not appealed against my chargeback and as the 45 days have passed they can’t now.

    happy days
    Thanks for the info bignred05.
We booked our AT flights through Travel Bag, so I've had to wait months for their (TB) formal confirmation of cancellation, even though I knew AT had cancelled our route for the entire Summer season back in May.  Five of us were booked to fly to Vancouver from Manchester on 5th August, with return in Sept.  Total refund owed £2.7k.  I've today completed my chargeback request with Tesco CC.  Travel bag have come back to my replies requesting a full cash refund in the same day.  They have stated AT are not offering any cash refunds as at 30th July.  This is not consistent with some of the replies above, where refunds have been offered for outbound legs, but to be fair, TB may not be aware of those direct offers.  Disappointingly, TB did make one completely false statement which I'll quote: "....as they are a Canadian Airline, the regulations do not apply to them."  To anyone else who reads this thread and is having issues.  This statement from TB is incorrect.  The regulations apply to any airline who operates a flight from within the EU; regardless of their incorporation address.  Good luck to all in your endeavours.

Ask Travelbag to read the CAA statement issued last week regarding Air Transat:
Air Transat: The CAA says it had identified Air Transat as not paying cash refunds based on passenger complaints. However, Air Transat has now confirmed it is paying cash refunds, and contacting customers when a flight is cancelled to let them know they have this option.

  • hi, just checked the air transat website and now they are suggesting a refund for the return leg....ive got a chargeback in place but this suggests we will be getting refunds......

If your flight from the United Kingdom to Canada has been cancelled, you may be eligible for a refund for the value of your flight segment from the UK to Canada.

    • If you booked directly with Air Transat (via www.airtransat.co.uk or our contact centre), you will receive written notification informing you of your options.
    • If you booked with a travel agent or via a website other than www.airtransat.co.uk, your travel agent or Web intermediary will receive a confirmation email from Transat and they will then notify you.

If your return flight is on a route that is suspended indefinitely, such as certain direct flights from Western Canada, then you may also be eligible for a refund for the value of your flight segment from Canada to the UK. If applicable, you will receive a written notification and the refund will be processed automatically by priority of departure date. There is no need to contact us to request it.

So far any refund of return leg is only for those coming back from Western Canada. No use for those of us coming back from Toronto. However simple fact is that we are entitled to full refunds under EC261/2004.

My temporary credit has now become a proper credit as from the 3rd August so that starts my countdown. Visa rules say 30 days, Barclaycard have told me 35 days.
  • Sainsbury’s MasterCard told me it is 45 working days and that the date is issued automatically when the refund process starts

  • I've received an email from Air Transat today, notifying me that I will receive a full refund for both legs of my return flight to Western Canada. Chargeback is well underway - I wonder if they will be able to join up the pieces!

I think Air Transat are offering FULL REFUNDS now on certain routes only as they are not planning on doing them for next summer, hence they have to give you a FULL REFUND on that basis.

a few more charebacks appear to be working now according to the Facebook group.

I think each and every credit card weather its Visa or Mastercard must have different rules.
I've got two chargebacks on the go, 1 with Tesco & I with IHG (Creation) both are Mastercard

Tesco have told me its 45 days and it was 45 days only as the matter is now resolved in my favour with NO appeal from Air Transat.
IHG (Creation) have told me 60 days for Air Transat to appeal.
going off the facebook group it appears every other credit card has different days from 45 or 60.
