i have bought a nintendo ds lite on ebay from a supplier in hong kong. I have tracked it to customs in the UK and am now being told by parcelforce i have to pay charges.
the site selling makes no mention of this and charges £25.99 delivery, which i hope included the charges. does anybody know why i am being charged or have you also been charged

I'm afraid you will have to pay up if you want your goods.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

postage has nothing to do with customs(though some couriers offer an all inclusive service)
the fee is a customs charge which is basically VAT and a handling fee for parcelforce0 -

It is not upto the seller in Hong Kong to advise you of customs charges, it is your responsibility to acquaint yourself with the law. Any goods brought in from outside the EU over £18 will be liable for Import Duty and VAT. The courier then charges you as your agent to clear them through customs on your behalf, paying the necessary duties.
The Channel Islands for example are not part of the EU so charges would also be payable on items from there.0 -
so for £119 item, how much do you think i will be charged0

17.5% at least....work permit granted!0 -
If the goods were £119 including postage, you can expect to pay £20.83 VAT and a £13.50 clearance fee to Parcelforce.
If the postage is not included, you will pay £25.38 VAT(".)0 -
i'm gutted and feel ripped off now. there's no mention of this on any of feedback given by previous buyers.0
-
why do you feel ripped off?
customs are always specific to the country the buyer lives in.
the supplier has no control over that0 -
because i didn't know, that's why0
