You can look at Universal Credit. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/

There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement  https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits you currently get.

You will be excluded from UC if you have savings over £16,000.

You may also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction from your local council.

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Very timely and informative. It helps to work with a mortgage broker, but one also needs to know at least the basics of how to keep your home after this pandemic is over
  • I booked an AI holiday through teletext on 22/1/20 to travel to Benidorm in August 2020 - booked before the Covid19 outbreak - where do I stand with regards to a refund etc ? Thanx
  • My daughter started her new job for a smallish B2B company specialising in UK excursions, in February. She was put on furlough in March. On Monday evening at 5pm she received an email from her boss asking if she was available to talk. She was told she was being made redundant from the end of this month. She had to wait for HR to contact her with details, telling her the company could no longer afford to keep her. She said she didn’t understand because the company wasn’t paying her, the govt. was, but to no avail. No one has been able to give her clear reasons as to why she cannot continue to remain on their books, at least until the end of June so that she could be paid for another month and be given more of a chance to find another job. They refuse to negotiate and in my opinion have behaved appallingly. She cannot claim unfair dismissal because she has been with them less than two years. Is there anything she can do? She is a lone parent. She is totally distraught and I am very worried about her. Please can anyone help?

If needed look at eligibility for Universal Credit https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/

If she is expecting a further payment from her employer she should delay claiming UC until after she has had that payment because any earnings received after she claims will reduce her first payment.

    Hi everyone
Looking for some help . I’ve been furloughed since the 14th April . Payslip has arrived and in feb I was off sick . So was in company sick pay . As far as I can see from my payslip they have deducted my sick pay off my again this month

    would this be correct ?
  • Can anyone advise .. I’m a full time employee and have been for over two years. In April I signed a contract to go part time in May.
ive been on furlough since April and paid 80% of my full time wage. This month I’ve been paid my part time wage .
is this correct or should I be paid on what I was earning when furlough ??

Although they could claim the higher amount, it would cost them more as you would still have to be classed as full time so would accrue full time holiday pay rather then part time holiday pay.

My daughter, who is a student, started her first shift on the 7th March for a retail company. (She was laid off after Christmas in a previous job so was not working until this current job). As the cut off is the 19th March for RTI submissions, what happens to the 1000s of people who fall in to this loophole where employers submit their returns anytime after the 19th March and up to the end of March please? I know she’s only an A Level student but she has her mobile phone and other things still to pay for. Is there a way round it please?
