Laura Ashley in Administration - What are my Rights?

I ordered a sofa in the Aintree store on 10th March and took advantage of the interest free credit. The sofa cost £1218 with an additional £104 for Stainguard Warranty, so my total outlay was £1322. I paid a deposit of £132.20 (in store) with my Visa Debit Card and agreed to pay the balance off over 6 monthly payments of £198.30. I'm now unsure whether I'll ever get the sofa! I've tried ringing Customer Services but the line is down owing to the volume of calls, so not sure what to do. Should I cancel the Direct Debit? The thought of now having to pay £198.30 each month for a sofa I may never receive is extremely worrying. Could anyone explain to me what my rights are with respect to this transaction and perhaps offer me some advice? Ideally, if I'm not going to receive the sofa I'd like my deposit back and cancel the Direct Debit payments.

Have you received any notification on the order since they announced in administration?
Don't do anything till you do. It is possible that you may still get your sofa.
If they say you won't then call your bank and start a chargeback for non receipt of goods on the £132.20.
Who are you paying the balance to? Is it a finance co or direct to Laura Ashley. When is it due?
If to a finance co, contact the company before cancelling DD.

  • Thanks born_again. I've not received any notification and having reviewed the loan agreement it seems the monthly repayments don't start until I receive the sofa. This is a relief, I assume my confirmation of receipt of the goods will trigger the first payment. It looks as though the loan is directly with Laura Ashley so I guess I just need to sit tight and see what happens. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
  • I bought some Laura Ashley furniture last month, costing over £500, with my LA MasterCard. The furniture has not yet been delivered (due 10 April) and with the company now in administration I don’t expect to get it. I can’t wait months for it anyway so I’ll need to buy it elsewhere soon.
The LA customer services phone line is down. I got through to the LA MasterCard people but they weren’t much help. They and the local store are in the dark.
Should I issue a chargeback through my bank or wait? Any advice would be appreciated.

You will really need to wait till 10 April. Unless you get confirmation that you will not be getting delivery of the sofa.
So give your card provider a call 11 April to start the chargeback process.

  • I am in a similar position having just ordered furniture and paid deposit on credit card. I was told by staff post the administration that they were told all existing orders were to be honoured. If this doesn't turn out to be the case in a few months time will I still be able claim back through my credit card?

    Yes.
You will have a chargeback right.

Is there a time limit for this from payment or from original delivery date if that is not forthcoming. Wondering if I should claim now.

Chargeback timescale varies by card provider, but it's usually at least 90 days from expected delivery, and typically 120 days.

Unless you have proof of non supply/delivery. Then you can't claim now. You will have to wait till the expected date of delivery.
Timescale on Visa cards  is 120 days from either date of payment, or date of expected delivery. Up to a max of 540 days.
Also at the moment you are really going to struggle to get through to any bank. They are swamped with calls, due to what is going on & a lack of staff due to self isolation.

  • I ordered a chair from Laura Ashley with a delivery date of 3 April 2020. I have heard nothing since.  I have contacted customer services by email but had no reply.  I paid in full by debit card £ 320. Do I have any rights regarding a refund?
