  • Cannot add this above but the change from 44.4 to 66.6 corresponds to the shift on the chart

Whats weird here is that your chart doesn't seem to correspond to the voltage.

To explain a little, the batteries run between about 48v and 52v, so most folk call them as a 50v battery.
    P= I x V so 50v x 66.6a =3330 or 3.3kw, but your step on the graph goes to around 2.5kw maybe.

Same deal on the 44.4a = 2.2kw. But that actually looks right on the graph.

I thought previously you said you were charging at 80% so going by my own. Thats about 2.65kw which could be what your graph indicates.
    But 2650/50 = 53a, not 66.6a

    Hmmmmm

    Edit.
I've looked on tablet for similar data.
I assume you are in data, and then history data.
So the three figures before the 44 and 66 are temperatures,  one is inner, the other two are radiator, then tbat at 0c.
So on the line where you have 44.4 and 66.6 I have 100 on every line.
    That line says maxchg

I take that to mean of the batteries theoretical max charge, how much can you give it based on.... maybe its current temperature.

So because mine are warm I can give them 100%, but due to yours being cold, you can only give them 44%, and then as they warm a bit, 66% or 2/3rds of max charge.

Thats what I reckon it is, not amps

If you scroll all the way back to the left, you will see 4th column is battery voltage vBat(v), then 5th is SOC (%),  then 6th is Ppv(W) which is the solar, and then 7th pCharge(W) will be the actual wattage you are charging at.

Assuming your data tables are same as mine

Yes I am in Data history... and column 7 does correspond to the graph ... Yipeeeeee
So your theory is good re 44 and 66 but cannot be a % as it does go to 111.......
Not a lot we can do about it anyway.. if the sun dont shine no solar.. and they will just take whatever they will from the grid.  I have upped rate to 90% tonight to see if I get any more in.  That extra kW would probably see me through until 00:30 ;)

    OK, I got it now.
    I have 4 x 2.4kwh pylontech  which have a recommended current of 25a,  25x 4 = 100 so that's why mine says 100.

    You have 3 x 3.5kwh which have a recommended current of 37a, so 3x 37 =111

So, if your batteries are at a good temperature you can potentially put in 111a to the batteries (though inverter will only do 70a)

If your batteries are bloody cold I guess you get 14.8a per battery or 44.4a total
Not so cold and you get 22.2a per battery or 66.6a total.

So you need to heat them up my friend

Thank you for making the effort to understand and then explain it
I will put some insulation round them but no easy way to add any extra heat without using a heater ... and that would defeat the object lol
    cheers

  • Hi
Putting the charge rate to 90% made no difference but they did get to 100% at 4:30, started a little higher min reading was 20%.
The max remained at 44.4 so some insulation required although not sure it will make any difference as there is no heating at all in the garage so the only heat will be from the battery charging process.  It will not be helping that they are sat directly on top of a very old metal safe..........
    Thanks again for the input

Sounds like you could go to 100% charge rate then Mick and they probably still wouldn't charge at the max rate so keeping within your aim of trying to prolong the lifespan of the batts.

Yeah I think unless you can retain their internal heat, or direct some from the inverter when it's running, you are going to be stuck with that 44.4a charge rate.

Wickes were doing kingspan 50mm solid insulation for £8 odds for i think a meter by half a meter, probably 2 of those would be enough to encapsulated your batteries. The solid stuff can take the weight too, so you can distance it from your metal safe, by sitting batts on top
    Might be worth a punt.

    Edit.

This is why I was eager to get my smart meter..... and onto "GO".. Now if only we could get rid of that pesky standing charge.....

    I can't compete with that.
This is my best over last few days

I'm unable to avoid some import, too high a usage... but its helping me to man maths another few batteries 😂😂😂

If the Mrs doesn't have the leccy heater on in the spare room when she's working, ours can look something like this .....

I “gave” my 4th battery to my son so we have 3 each.... he gets much more use out of it than I would but i could use it in the winter 😀😀😀
A little solar would help but the last 3 weeks had been dire here in the SE
