    Further to my previous  post.
I got a reply from HIES as follows:-

    Good Afternoon Mr Smith,

I have spoken to SSD regarding your complaint.

Unfortunately, in this case your workmanship warranty would be voided due to the installation of additional battery storage. I’m still not 100% sure your workmanship warranty is still live anyway, but that is invalid now anyway at least for this issue. Your manufacturer warranty would maybe cover you for the inverter itself if you could show the batteries had not caused an issue, however the inverter appears to be working correctly so does not seem to need replacing.

SSD have said they would contact you and arrange for an electrician to come out and have a look as a good will gesture just to check the system is safe in its current state.

As I don’t believe the required remedial works are covered by any warranty at this point, I would advise you arrange for someone to reconnect your batteries ASAP as they will become damaged if allowed to lose charge.

I’m sorry I am unable to do more to assist in this case.

     Kind Regards,

    Darren

The system was installed in May 2019 and the workmanship warranty is for ten years. I don't think that adding batteries should invalidate this.

    Any thoughts please?

My thoughts are that this issue is at the inverter end of the lead so it's unaffected by adding additional batteries.

The problem is that the time spent arguing the toss is costing a lot of money. If sourcing a new lead is also difficult, I'd suggest getting a sparky in to re-terminate the cable & fit a new panel mount socket to the inverter. Hopefully there is enough spare cable to cut back to an area where there's no heat damage? If not, get another brand of cable & re-terminate that... or fit a panel mount with a bolt connection rather than the Surlok (Pylontech cables have a crimped bolted connector at one end?).

Thank you for the good (and cheap to do) suggestions.
The first one is for 50mm cable. The second is for 35mm.?
Is this because the cable in the inverter is bigger than the cable from the batteries?

I picked a couple of random examples from the RS site. Most Surloks are 90 degrees so you’d need whichever panel mount went with the straight plug that matched your cable size. You’d need a sparky to fit it because it’s crimped.

what batteries have you got? If they’re pylons then a bolted panel mount terminal & a pylon lead would be easiest.

An electrician from the company is coming in the morning to assess the safety of my system. I'll see if he can offer some help in doing the job privately.
    I've got four 2.4 Pylontechs.

This is what I'd fit along with a pylontech long lead..

The electrician came  and was very helpful.
He said that a new inverter would be the best answer but he would try and scource some new cables and connectors and fit them for me. His concern was that to replace the terminal at the inverter end he would have to take the cover off and this could invalidate my Lux inverter  warranty. I told him that I've been trying to get this sorted for three months now, spending hours online and on the 'phone and, so far, everyone involved is doing what they can to absolve themselves of any responsibility and I'm getting nowhere. I'm going to see how much a new inverter would cost so that I can assess the pros and cons.

I've had a look at that inverter terminal Nick and it looks OK.
How would I to connect it to the battery cable?
The cable I have has the usual snap-on connector to the battery terminal and there's enough cable to cut the damaged part off at the inverter end.

You could get a sparky to crimp a connector onto the end of your existing cable, or you could buy a new set of pylontech long leads … loads on eBay for around £35
