I face-booked Halifax to ask when the new scheme starts from, as I have opted for the £5000 balance as I am a non tax payer so can claim the extra £1.25 back.
I have had the response back saying that any accounts that were open before the 13th March 2020 that the new scheme starts from the 1st of June, so if you have chosen the £5000 balance then this must be in on the 1st June and thereafter. If you opened your account on/after the 13th March 2020 then the 1st of July applies.
That's how I understood it but didn't know the exact cut-off date.

Think I better get round to phoning them up since I've only got a week left, kind of forgot about it

Thank you. I was confused about when you would need to have the funding in place because the examples give 10 November 2020 as a start date (!) and you would need to have £5k in the a/c on that date and kept in until end of Now 2020. I suppose its sensible that, as the scheme doesn't start for me until 1 June, I don't need to put the money in until then. I have some funds in another Halifax a/c that is only paying 0.1% which drops to 1.10% in July so I may as well transfer that over.

Just a quick comment on how the world has changed.
No, not the corona virus, but how we don't seem to need many direct debits anymore (for current bank account incentives). When the Tesco loophole was lost, we were frantic for new sources for direct debits, whereas now I only need a few for my Coop Everyday Rewards and my Barclays Blue Rewards

I suppose the new quest is on how to make debit card payments instead

Looks like the BOS version of the Halifax account is not being changed and stays on current terms and £2 reward as they have not notified me of any changes. I have 2 Halifax ones that are changing and one BOS one that isnt. All 3 show in Halifax app ...

Does any one have any suggestions on how to close my Halifax current account.  I'm unable to get to a branch.  I can't find a "close account" option when I vew the account online (although there is an "upgrade" one).  There is no secure messaging on the website and I'm sure they really don't want me clogging up their customer services number.  I have visions of going overdrawn over the next few months as they repeatedly charge me £3pcm for the privilege of keeping open an account with a zero balance which I'm unable to tell them I don't want any more.
If you can't think of anything nice to write, say nothing. Rudeness isn't clever.

The default action if you do nothing is to switch you to a free account with no monthly fees, but no rewards either. The new reward account is explicit opt-in.

If you don't register to change to the new reward your 'old' reward accounts will be downgraded to ordinary current acs with no monthly fees.
So if you do noting you wont be charged.
Read the terms in your Halifax messages - something like 'your current acs are changing' or near the start of this thread.

If you really need to close it, simply use the current account switch service, which will close your account.
