It seems a bit of strange scenario.
Are you actually facing this or is it just hypothetical?
One would think that the logical sequence for upgrading is:
current account ==> reward current account ==> ultimate reward current account.
I wouldn't see a reason for the middle step not to exist. But in any case if upgrading is not possible in Online Banking I'd try over the phone.

I've been forced to upgrade a current account to a reward account six times in the last month.  Shouldn't have been necessary but, at least in June, it was easy to do.
You're sure it wasn't already a Reward account?

If a current account has the option to upgrade to the Ultimate Reward but not to the Reward account, is there another way of upgrading to the Reward account?
You have to go to More actions -> Change account to change to a Reward Current Account.

3 Reward accounts already exist, this must be the limit that prevents further Reward account upgrades.

Dont know about todays reward AC  but prevously years ago  I would open further reward accounts in branch .
I mention this as I was preparing for a young jobs worth staff member to be told ....No sorry you have too many already .
This wasnt the case at all they were very pro active in doing  much more than usual so I wondered ....could I smell a staff incentive here  ?
I felt they must have some kind of branch target bonus to meet for opening new accounts. Stands to reason as the customer was getting a opening incentive too .

So when things get back to normal  a busy branch may be a option .

When they first launched the rewards account, you were allowed 3 of them

I got the letter regarding the change to reward account from June 1st 2020 and I would need to take action by 15th May 2020. I  have informed them over the phone before the deadline that I would like to keep my reward account and choose a reward of £5 a month instead of lifestyle.
I have paid £1500 into the AC and spent £500 using my Halifax Debitcard by paying £500 into my investment account using Halifax debitcard early June.
I recently revisited my Halifax account and notice that there has not been any fee of £3 taken from my account. But I have not seen the £5 reward beeing paid into my Halifax Reward Account this July ?
Has anyone received the reward of £5 into his/her Halifax reward account ? If not when will the reward be paid ??
Is there anyway to know that the reward consitioned of your old reward account has been succesfully maintained (instead of beeing downgraded) without the need to call them following your instruction over your phone back in May 2020 ?
    Thank you for your time.
Apparently,  the £5 reward is due to be paid on or around the 12th of July.

The fee is not being taken for the first 3 months however you run the account, this has been mentioned by me several times.
