    To quote the BBC article:
"The first strike, set for 7 January, had already been cancelled after BAA and union officials held talks on Monday.

A plan of how to move forward was outlined at the meeting, and union officials said they would then go to their members and get them to vote on whether or not to call off the remaining two strikes. "
The final decision rests with the Members not the Unions.
I've no doubt it will be, or should be, a formality.

The meeting the article refers to was Monday's meeting. The vote would have been today (Thursday) by the union representatives when the deal to cancel all three strikes was ratified. I don't believe that they require, or are having, an all member vote.

This is my understanding and not wishing to be pedantic about it.
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...

So subsequently the staff have arrived here through no fault of their own, is that the case?
That's one way of looking at it But staff and their union cannot have been unaware of what is happening in the pensions market

According to the employee comments on this forum and in the press, clearly no to the first point but did understand the situation and threatened the action because of that!

As with most industrial action of such draconian nature, common sense takes a back seat to threts, counter threats and posturing.

It will take some explaining by BAA though if subsequently after the further talks etc. they leave the pension scheme as is for both existing And NEW EMPLOYEES!

there certainly might be a few problems ahead should the pension reveiw reveal the fs scheme in good sound shape , but baa still wanting to close it to new employees. we could end up in same situation as just a few weeks ago
  • Aye I know but I 'thought' you were dodgy!!!....your not though...kinda worked that out!;)

    cheers xxxxxx

I hope the pension review isn't too terribly soon? (she says wistfully) because I'd really like to enjoy my ..... Relief! I guess I'm not really going to relax until I'm on the plane on the 15th. Then I can start worrying about the fact I don't enjoy flying anyway. (Ok so I only have two previous flights in my life to base that on but..)

Now maybe I can enjoy the festive season... oh.. .wait... damn!

I know this now a defunct thread but I felt I had to close out by saying that I had a fantastic visit to Japan. It really was one of the best experiences of my life.

The airline did lose my suitcase but only for one day.

    Thanks all.

the strike is BA = British Airways

Richard is correct ... this thread was related to a BAA strike (over 2 years ago!)
