So subsequently the staff have arrived here through no fault of their own, is that the case? That's one way of looking at it But staff and their union cannot have been unaware of what is happening in the pensions marketPresumably the company have informed the staff and discussed matters at length before it all got this far. Do you think the employees fully understand the situation?
As with most industrial action of such draconian nature, common sense takes a back seat to threts, counter threats and posturing.
It will take some explaining by BAA though if subsequently after the further talks etc. they leave the pension scheme as is for both existing And NEW EMPLOYEES!0 -

It's my understanding that the deal has been ratified by union representatives at the planned meeting today. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -

To quote the BBC article:
"The first strike, set for 7 January, had already been cancelled after BAA and union officials held talks on Monday.
A plan of how to move forward was outlined at the meeting, and union officials said they would then go to their members and get them to vote on whether or not to call off the remaining two strikes. "
The final decision rests with the Members not the Unions.
I've no doubt it will be, or should be, a formality.0 -
