I was told by KLM to phone back late on 31st Dec or on 1st Jan as they would have information about the strike then. I'm not sure if this means there are more talks scheduled for 31st or not... anybody know?
I hate the uncertainty. I almost wish when they say they'll strike that it is definite, no matter what, so that at least I could reschedule. I'll be mad as hell if I do manage to change to an earlier flight and book a hotel to wait in until the next leg of the journey, and then find they call off the thing hours before my original one is meant to take off.0 -
HELP< PLEASE!!! Look, I fly in to Heathrow at 6.20am 14 January and I'm worried. I am travelling from New Zealand, leaving 13 January - over 30 hours travel and unbelievably, Qantas engineers start rolling strikes - the largest proposed since 1989 - at my end on 9 January - it is my first time to fly to Europe and it is to see my husband who I haven't seen in a year. Massive strikes leaving and arriving...It doesn't seem believable let alone fair. Does anyone know how many days I'm likely to be waiting and if so where? Qantas, who I'm flying with, are playing dumb. I hate flying as it is... thank you!!!0

IF (and it's a BIG IF) the 14th Jan strike goes ahead at this end and assuming your flight on 13th is not affected by the Qantas strike, your flight won't be allowed to depart unless it has somewhere to land (sorry for stating the obvious) so if Heathrow is closed, Qantas will have to make alternative arrangements for an arrival airport and transfer to Heathrow. There are so many problems with this but at least, airlines and their unfortunate passegers will learn by what happened on 7th Jan IF that strike goes ahead.
Easy to say but hang tight and watch/listen to developments. It's not surprising that Qantas are "playing dumb" as at this stage, faced with their double dilemma, it would be impossible to respond with any certainty to individual passengers problems. But they will have to let you know nearer to your flight.
I hope everything turns out ok for you.0 -
Well, I'm hoping your big IF matches my (naiive?) kiwi optimism; have just been out and played a bit of tennis so now feeling less 'aghast' - I was told by my husband in London that if the strike happens on the 7th, everything will be days behind - he's very concerned with UK news foremost in his mind - in NZ there's no news of BAA's proposed strikes; even my travel agent had 'no idea' believe it or not... I'd just cancelled travel insurance and was without but re-booked new insurance on the 22nd of December when he told me about BAA - now fingers crossed. Cheers!0

more talks 3rd or 4th....... these will probably be the days we get a clearer picture of if strike goes ahead. although potentially it could be called of last minute im assuming by end of next week there should be more info. just out of interest strike starts 0600 on 7th. still thinking this has 90% chance of being sorted0 -
Selfish me has spent the past 18months saving for a 2week Holiday to Disney Florida - we wanted to go before the kids were too old.
We are due to fly out on 17th January at 10am - the 4 hours after the first 48hour strike is scheduled to start.
I am freaking out about the situation - it is so unfair. I have been looking forward to this holiday for so long. I just pray that things sort themselved out and we are not affected.
As for the guy who called us holiday makers selfish - pah! That is just mean pot calling the kettle black springs to mind (not to BAA as a whole but to his opinion in paticular) - if having a tantrum and throwing your toys out the pram makes the 6000 odd BAA workers feel better - good for you - but for the 1.3million holiday makers/travellers who could be affected by this action - the stress and worry they are going through - they have everyright to be upset. And lets face it - if people dont go on holidays etc - you dont have a job - or a pension for that matter.0 -
What brillaint timing for a strike... i fly out on the 7th Jan and return in the 14th.. London to New York with Virgin Atlantica.. great... NOT.
What will happen if they do strike then, will Virgin let us change the flights to day before or couple of days after?? refund maybe?
whats the feeling on all this.. will the strike go ahead so you think?0 -
Not sure about other companies but air france are gonna get different flights or hotels free of charge for the stranded...well thats what we were told..might be different in real life?????You may walk and you may run
