Barclaycard on Google Pay defaults to Barclays Debit Card??

The Barclays and Barclaycard Android apps have now merged to a single app. I used to have my Reward Barclaycard as my default for Android Tap and Pay. But in the new merged app, even though it shows Barclaycard as a choice, by the time I have finished the setup my Tap and Pay default is set to Barclays rather than Barclaycard. I can go to the Tap and Pay configuration in the Android settings and change it back to Barclaycard but then Tap and Pay doesn't work. So it seems there is no way to have my Barclaycard work in Tap and Pay. Is this right or am I missing something?

I was under the impression that you cannot use Barclays accounts on Google Pay - you have to use the app's inbuilt tap and pay and disable Google Pay as the NFC payment method.

You are correct Tildaplum, but my point is that once you have done that you used to be able to configure the Barclaycard mobile app to use Barclaycard for your Tap and Pay. Now, as there is just a single app that is for both Barclays banking and Barclaycard, if you have a Barclays debit card as well as a Barclaycard, the app seems to only allow the debit card for Tap and Pay. Thus if I want to use Barclays Tap and Pay I can no longer get my Barclaycard rewards nor put off my payment until by Barclaycard payment is due. I can, of course, simply simply tap the actual Barclaycard instead.

I have both a Barclays debit card and a Barclaycard credit card but am able to elect to use my credit card for contactless mobile payments.

Seems like a Barclay's app bug (or limitation).   Many cards can be used with Google Pay, so you may want to identify a new supported credit card aligned with your requirements (0%, cashback, foreign use, whatever) and set that up with Google Pay.  I have various Amex, Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards in Pay, and while there is a default (Amex for me) I can choose to use another at the time of the transaction.  Supported UK banks are listed here: https://pay.google.com/intl/en_uk/about/banks/

My Barclays app allows me to choose between Barclaycard (credit card) or Barclays Debit card. I was confused by your thread title saying Google Pay. If you are using the Barclays app as your default nfc app then you can definitely choose which card to use in the app.

Fire up the Barclays app and log in.

Tap on Pay & Transfer (probably at the bottom of the screen).

Tap on Manage your payments (probably towards the bottom of the screen).

Tap on Contactless mobile payments (probably towards the bottom of the screen).

Tap on Set up and follow the instructions.

After going through that process the app appears to remember which card you wish to use for contactless transactions.
