Tesco ‘no means of payment’
Hey guys,
I recently couldn’t pay for my £55 of fuel because I couldn’t pay on my phone. I signed a ‘no means of payment’ form and left. I managed to finally find my wallet, but within three day’s of the 7 day deadline. I wasn’t able to get to another station until 2 days after the deadline. I apologised for my lateness, the store took my payment with no problem and all was well.

I then received an email from Daniel Silvermans telling me I have to pay £100, which seems a rather high and extortionate price.
I phoned them today, said that I had paid the original price of the fuel and the man on the phone said, that’s fine he’ll need my name and the date I paid and he’ll look into it.
I really don’t have £100 to spare at the moment, I could potentially do a payment plan but obviously would rather not pay anything as i have settled the matter with Tesco.
Any advice?

What answer are you hoping to get on here?
You said yourself that the debt collector said its fine...?
You have paid the money you owe, nothing further is needed.0 -
Unless you were hospitalised, then no excuse for being 2 days late on the deadline
You need it in writing that the late payment was accepted as full and final payment.1 -
You went to a petrol station without any means of payment except an app on your phone for contactless payment - but £55 is nearly twice the usual maximum that you can normally pay with contactless. Some retailers don't apply that to app payments, some do. You don't say whether that was the reason you couldn't pay, whether your phone wasn't working for some reason (no data, no battery), whether there was simply not enough money available in your account - or whether there was an issue with their equipment accepting your payment.
Then, having failed to pay, when you "finally found" your wallet (it took you three days to find, or three days to get round to bothering to look?) it then took you another six days to get round to returning and paying for your fuel.
It is hardly unreasonable for the retailer to have passed your case on to a debt collection company once you failed to pay within the deadline, is it? The debt collector may waive their charges, given that you'd already paid the retailer by the time they contacted you, but this is their choice.4 -
I had the money, was willing to pay, but they didn’t accept larger than £30. I asked if they could split it into two separate payments but they wouldn’t. I’m not trying to wiggle out of paying anything if I need to (so I don’t appreciate the spikey tone) I’m just wondering what Daniel Silvermans are like as a company, and what options I have. £100 fine for being two days late, as it’s quite a high price.0

No, of course they wouldn't wriggle around the upper limit by accepting two smaller payments. Why would any retailer avoid the basic security mechanisms put in place by their merchant account...?I’m not trying to wiggle out of paying anything if I need to (so I don’t appreciate the spikey tone) I’m just wondering what Daniel Silvermans are like as a company, and what options I have. £100 fine for being two days late, as it’s quite a high price.
Two days late. But nine days after they let you leave without paying, and six days after you actually located your plastic. Perhaps you could have made that small effort a bit earlier, instead of sitting around for the thick end of a week AFTER you've decided that perhaps you'd better find your wallet...?2 -
You’re assumption that I waited 3 days before finding my wallet is starting to !!!!!! me off.Perhaps you should ask more questions to understand what really happened instead of making grand assumptions and ungrounded accusations.1
-
So what really happened, then? AdrianC is only going by your own account and timeline, so there's nothing assumed or without grounds.
I suspect it's moot, because it's likely it will all be sorted shortly.1 -
When I was in a similar situation I made the payment over the phone.
Was this not a possibility instead of waiting X (insert number of choice here) days after receiving the fuel to make the payment. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

It’s an unfortunate fact that some people who are neither in jail nor under serious sedation pretend that they could not pay which is why companies can be skeptical at times.
what actually happened?2
