OP - what was the cause for the delay in finding your wallet/purse and then what was the delay to pay once the wallet/purse had been found?
Was the fuel station a long way from home?

That aside, if you have paid then the debt collector may or may not wave the charges, you paid late and signed to say you would pay within x days, you didn't pay in x days so technically Tesco are right in their process.

Even if it was, we know for a fact that the OP was in possession of a fully-functional device allowing telephonic communication. A quick call with the card number would almost certainly have seen the payment go through as a cardholder-not-present transaction, with zero issue.

You’re assumption that I waited 3 days before finding my wallet is starting to !!!!!! me off.

Perhaps you should ask more questions to understand what really happened instead of making grand assumptions and ungrounded accusations.
I already did. I then made the obvious inference from your lack of an answer to it, given that you answered the rest of the post and even complained about the "spiky" tone.

Then, having failed to pay, when you "finally found" your wallet (it took you three days to find, or three days to get round to bothering to look?)
You are in a position entirely of your own making here, due solely not to the three day delay in finding your wallet but to the six days between finding your wallet and actually bothering to pay - so it's no great surprise that sympathy is limited, is it?

i think what most people are struggling to understand is why you were unable to go to a Tescos petrol station within a couple of days of finding your wallet.  Personally if it had been me I would have been making a special effort/trip to pay asap the same day.

Would it even need to be a petrol station? You can't go more than a mile around here without passing some form of Tesco.

oh i Just re-read it and you didn't pay 2 days late you paid 9 days late. Gotcha.
I don't see how losing a debit card is much of an excuse. If you have the funds to afford the fuel (which clearly, you did), then you could have transferred £55 to a family or friend and they give you cash.

I have done non-payment at fuel stations before and I've gone straight back later the same day or following day with the correct amount of money. If you buy something, and do not pay for it, then it should be #1 priority to pay it back ASAP if you know you can afford it.

I cannot imagine not getting back as fast as I could to make payment in the same circumstances. OP, you are not going to get much sympathy here, you basically took advantage. You probably won't have to pay the £100 but it's everybody else who ensures that they have means to pay for their shopping who pays for that in the end.

Just for clarity ... it isn't, wasn't and never could be a fine ... this is a civil matter, not a criminal or decriminalised matter. It was administration and debt collection charges added on top of the amount to be paid.

My nearest is a 40 mile round trip. In the OP's circumstance, I'd be on the phone as soon as I got home, and if they insisted on me being there in person, I'd be there the next day at the latest.
