Tesco ‘no means of payment’

How so? You think Tesco are going to increase their prices to you because this chap made a mistake?maisie_cat said:I cannot imagine not getting back as fast as I could to make payment in the same circumstances. OP, you are not going to get much sympathy here, you basically took advantage. You probably won't have to pay the £100 but it's everybody else who ensures that they have means to pay for their shopping who pays for that in the end. Some of the responses on here are nothing short of a disgrace at times, he’s made a mistake and asked for some information. If you haven’t got it say nothing, going off thread and trying to berate someone is quite frankly bullying. And not even in person. Cowards1 -
He didn't make a mistake. He made a series of mistakes.jefaz07 said:How so? You think Tesco are going to increase their prices to you because this chap made a mistake? Some of the responses on here are nothing short of a disgrace at times, he’s made a mistake and asked for some information.
Firstly, he didn't ensure that he had the means to pay for the fuel before putting it in his vehicle.
Then, after signing a form agreeing to pay within 7 days, he failed to do this saying that he didn't find his wallet until 4 days later (despite this still being 3 days before the payment was due).
After finding his wallet, he then waited another 5 days before finally going into another petrol station to pay what he owed.
When he couldn't find his wallet he could have called the petrol station manager to explain but no, he didn't do this.
When he found his wallet he could have gone to any Tesco petrol station within the next 3 days to pay what he owed but no, he didn't do this either.
He finally paid 12 days after putting the fuel into his car.
If there was a shred of remorse or personal responsibility shown in the opening post then I'm sure the responses may well have been a bit different.

Umm, it isn't Tesco who are charging him.jefaz07 said:How so? You think Tesco are going to increase their prices to you because this chap made a mistake?
Tesco sold the debt on to a third-party debt collection firm when it went unpaid after the end of the grace period.
Personally, I wouldn't call buying £55 of petrol without being in possession of a means of paying for it, then not bothering to pay the debt for nine days, "a mistake".
Assuming that because some retailers don't apply the £30 contactless limit to phone apps, none will - that's not an excuse.
I notice the OP still hasn't clarified whether he had actively misplaced his wallet for the three days, or simply didn't bother looking for it for three days. Either way, he acknowledges that it was a further six days until he made the small amount of effort to attempt to pay, taking him outside the eminently reasonable seven day grace period.0 -
No, it’s really not bullying, it’s the sort of responses you expect when someone gives half a story and is clearly in the wrong.jefaz07 said:

You don’t get to dictate what people post, if you think that a post is breaching the rules though you can report it.
Given the thin skin, and the belief that you are in charge, would it be right to deduce that you are an only child and aged under thirty?0 -
The whole thing sounds like I need fuel and I don't have the money until payday, I'll blag it until then and it has now bitten him. Serves him right total fandan.0

The answer is simplei think what most people are struggling to understand is why you were unable to go to a Tescos petrol station within a couple of days of finding your wallet. Personally if it had been me I would have been making a special effort/trip to pay asap the same day.
The OP agreed to 7 days but is the sort of entitled person who thinks that not adhering to this and not telling Tesco is perfectly reasonable behaviour.
Tesco will rightly take the view that if it is not paid in 7 days it will probably not be paid at all
Maybe if he is charged £100 he will take something away from this experience

When I filled up and realised I'd left my wallet at home, I made sure I returned within the hour.
I suspect that many of us are similar - we take debts seriously.
The fuel station extended every courtesy to the OP and s/he didn't fulfill their promise to pay within seven days.3 -
I’ve been unable to pay twice. The first time, I couldn’t find my bank card in my handbag and didn’t have time to hunt for it, as I needed to drive to Evensong (chorister). Whether the cashier thought I was clergy I’m not sure, but she was fine. I got to church, sang the service, found my bank card and went straight to the petrol station.
The other time was when I was happily filling the car up, and then looked at the numbers. A quick check of my bank account confirmed my horror - I didn’t have enough. I went into the kiosk and explained. Again, they were very understanding and thanked me for telling them rather than driving off! I said that I could pay on the Monday (4 days away) and that was accepted. Needless to say, I was very relieved to hand over the money on the Monday evening.0 -
These cowards would never say it face to face.jefaz07 said:

Don't judge everyone by your own life as not everyone will be as meek as you.Marvel1 said:

If I say, think or write something and I feel that my opinion is justified, I generally have no problem whatsoever conveying that opinion to anyone whether it be at a distance such as on a forum or face to face during a conversation.2
