Why are people so negative about all UK companies? We have some great businessess.
I'm not negative about all UK companies at all, or even about all companies in the FTSE 100. I'm negative about many of the biggest companies with significant weights in the FTSE 100, and (more importantly) about the (lack of) balance of that index.
I'm more positive about the FTSE 250.
The S&P 500 is little different to the FTSE 100 once you dig deeper.

Tried to buy RDSB through ii this morning ( at 08:15) order sat on the pending list, I am on the phone now trying to cancel it :-).
I made a similar purchase of Lloyds shares, they went through straight away.

I was unable to buy Shell or Bankers IT this morning, but could buy RTZ...
I guess they're very busy, are people buying or selling ?!?!?!

I should say that the Lloyds shares were bought through H&L. The RDSB purchase was processed as I was trying to cancel ( a bit of a coincidence) at well over £1 more than I intended. I am not happy about that.

Rather than trade online , ring the trading desk.

Use price limits when placing trades.

So, are the market timers ready to pounce yet?
As a planned starting point, yes, I've dipped my toes back in this morning, in a measured way, using a FTSE All Share Index tracker fund, as it's now down 20% from recent peak, my scheduled start point.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...

A few selective purchases for me.

Yup, as planned, I've dipped my toes back in this morning, in a planned, measured way, using a FTSE All Share Index tracker fund, as it's now down 20% from recent peak, my scheduled start point.

Getting ready, with the heady mix of Corona and oil it feels like it could be time to start drip buying back when the US markets open, though it seems the US have still not really awoken to the reality of the situation...
Yes, it's a type of gambling, but don't fool yourselves, anyone who buys stocks and shares is gambling to a degree.
"Doing Nothing" is in fact "Doing Something", and I question whether there really is safety in the herd mentality....
I liquidated 50% of pension as a precautionary safety measure, (I saw no upside but significant downside potential)
It's the first time I have done this, so have weathered through various financial crises in the past, but this is not a financial crisis.
In previous financial crises the vast majority of the population would have completely oblivious of the fact, this time the people are in the thick of it, and when the people stop consuming companies will feel it in a very tangible way....

Very close. I don't think we have quite hit bottom but it's best not to wait until then as as it's too easy to miss. Cases in China have apparently peaked and are now in decline. I'll give it another couple days then I think I will start buying. My view is the market has swung from over optimistic to over pessimistic. There is no long term or even medium term reason why the crash will persist after the virus has swept through a population so I expect an eventual bounce back rather than a long period of recovery as in many past recessions. But hey, everyone has there own opinion, pick yours and invest accordingly. Only time will tell who is right.
