Yes an outrage. Its a scam isnt it? Pure and simple.

I have done nothing wrong, signed up to my account. Got my DD, and paid in my required amount. Yet i am getting charged a fee just because my DD went out before i signed up to the current account. How is that my fault? I understand if they will not pay me my rewards, fair enough - but they should not charge me any fee either then!

The only outrage is that you're outraged at the bank for something which is your fault, not theirs.

How is it my fault that the DD went out early march before i transferred across????? If they wont pay me then they should not be charging me, i dont have any control of the Direct Debits. They are set up and always have been

    This is an outrage
How is it Barclays's fault? They don't control the dates that Direct Debits leave your account either; that's down to the companies taking the payments. It's your responsibility to know when your Direct Debits are going to be paid, not the bank's.

The Blue Rewards free is payable as long as you have Blue Rewards on your account, and it's your responsibility to ensure that you have enough Direct Debits to earn the reward.  If you don't, you still pay the fee, those are the conditions.

I dont think you have understood what has happened. You need to read it again. Barclays have charged me £4 for no reason. I had a basic account, switched to their current account mid march. I always had DD with them but they went out before the swtich. I paid in my 800 after the switch. I cannot help the fact the DD went out before the switch over but Barclays know i had those DD for my basic so they would have known. Regardless, of that, if my DD went out before then i wont be entitled to the rewards for that month - fine. But they cannot charge me the £4 for that month - it should work both ways

Basically its a SCAM because anyone who signs up for the blue rewards will obviously miss out the 1st (90% chance) and get charged the fee because its unlikely at the time they sign up they will have had their two DD paid out. Usually they go out at the start so anyone like me who signs up after a few days of the first month will get screwed.

Barclays know this and charge their fee regardless. Think about it £4 and how many millions of customers have to pay this.

    Genuis Scam by the banks

How exactly is it my fault? Got a current account with Barclays, had my DD set up (transferred over from my basic account), paid in my £800, signed up to the blue rewards.

How is it possibly my fault?

    Do you work for Barclays?

No, I don't work for Barclays, nor for any bank or financial institution, I just read the conditions before I sign up to something.
The £4 Blue Rewards fee is payable by all customers who have Blue Rewards on their account, whether they have any Direct Debits or not. Those are the conditions. It's your responsibility to check that you have two Direct Debits to earn the £7 reward, it's not up to Barclays to check that for you, and the £4 free is not waivable if you don't.

And i met all the conditions, i have had two direct debits set up from the beginning.  I have fulfilled all the conditions.

Its clear you dont understand what is going on, so  best not to clog up the thread.. I cant explain it any in a more simple format then i have already.

Barclays don't count any direct debits that have paid out prior to you signing up for Blue Rewards. You can argue with them that that is unclear through a complaint if you want.

I am genuinely confused about what is upsetting you

I know you have made a lot of contributions to the forum so you are not wasting people's time but you obviously have have a problem but I am struggling to understand what it is

clearly Barclays rewards operates on a calendar month and in that calendar month you must have two direct debits paid out of your chosen account to get £7 rewards

it seems as though you didn't have two direct debits hence no reward so what exactly are you complaining about ?

is it that Barclays should have have not upgraded your account knowing that two direct debits were due or is it something else ?

    kind regards tillda plum

Its the principle of the matter. If its happened to me, how many millions of customers do you think Barclays to this too? Its a loophole.

They set up this rewards scheme but unless you start it from the 1st of the month then basically there is a good chance you will not get paid out for the first month of this reward scheme.

In my case i upgraded from my Barclays basic account to a current account around the 11th March. My DD went out from my basic current account on the 1st few days. I put in my 800 and i should get my rewards. But Barclays are not counting those DD. OK - for arguments sake that is fine. Then they should not be charging me for the first month as it is not my fault that i signed up on the 11 march and that my DD went out a few days before on the barclays basic account. Nevertheless an upgrade on account should take into consideration i have been paying my DD albeit on the basic account. Is it my fault that my DD went out before the 11 march?

    It is scandalous

@Tilda - i did have the two DD.
