    At Cleverates

It's down as a 'Special Offer' but there are no details of when it ends.
Prefix the mobile number you want to call with '0844 721 2525'. The 1p per minute charge gets put on your normal phone bill (whoever your with)

Perfect for saying a Xmas hello to family and friends (or the new year)

    Cheers

  • GREAT TIP! Tried it and great line quality to a T-Mobile # this afternoon!

Just a couple of points to help people:
    1) INTERNATIONAL format number
    2) Is it REALLY 1p/minute with YOUR call carrier ?

    1) INTERNATIONAL FORMAT

Cleverates is one of those discount providers specialising in international calls

You first CALL the 0844 721 2525 number
and once answered (you get confirmation that 1p/minute)
you THEN dial the UK Mobile number in INTERNATIONAL format
ie you then press: 00 44 7.... (press # at end of number to speed things)

    2) 1p/MINUTE ?

I have checked the Dec 2005 BT price list that 0844 721 ... is band g8 and is indeed 1p/min including VAT 24hrs-7days/week. With of course a minimum call charge with BT of 5p/call so you can natter for 5minutes for same price.

Other providers may NOT be so cheap! eg OneTel typically apply a 10% markup to that standard BT rates for non-geographical numbers although have only a 4.8p minimum call cost. (Though can't tell from their website as 0844 721... numbers are not in their price list.)

    So to use BT dial: 1280 0844 721 2525

Not only are you guaranteed 1p/minute but it will then also count as call for those on BT Privacy getting CLI free (if they make SOME calls via BT).

No idea when this offer will expire but I guess the system will just say "cannot dial that number" once you enter your 00 44 7.... # number

    07711 is O2 (not Vodafone, sorry!);
07752 is the Tesco (was O2)
07950 is the Orange (was Fresh/T-mobile)

Package is 'StandardUKTalk' (i.e. no monthly fee); I use 1899 for other calls.

It is the 'FreeCaller' option that gives the free calls - no fee for this either.

Here is a snippet of my last but one bills, with all three mobiles on it - OneTel bill

Ive registered a few family mobile numbers for mobile override to see if this works ... fingers crossed

When you registered the mobile numbers did you specify the correct network or did you say they were all on the onetel network ? (I specified the correct network BTW)

Does sound a little to good to be true TBH - in theory you could just register every mobile you call ... the obvious issue here is that the person with the mobile can charge calls to your Onetel account but as they dont necessarily know its even registered (unless you tell them or want them to know) hopefully that won't happen

p.s. I found this description of the "freecaller" service

...Free calls between all your mobiles and landlines within your Onetel account. You only need to add this to one landline to benefit across the whole account....

I guess "all your mobiles" might not preclude mobiles on other networks ?

Even if this does work its very dodgy as onetel obviously intended it for mobiles and landlines belonging to the registered account holder - its stretching the truth a little to say all your families mobiles belong to you

Onetel could very quickly find themselves deluged with a glut of new applications to join their service if people on this forum cotton onto this - free calls to any registered mobile - geez

BTW to get the "free all the time" calls to your relatives landline did you use the "add another landline to account" feature ? - thinking about it you can't have done that because you would then end up paying your relatives phone bill as I think you have to have CPS on your relatives phone line so that all phone calls they make get charged to your account ?

Mmmm... I'd like to know how you added the freeCaller package to your account, i'm on 'LeisureTalk' and the option of 'add' the freecaller package is not in the relevant box.

When you go to your "Services Overview" page then have you tried going to the bottom of the page and clicking on one of the "Add Plan Extra" links ?

If I do this I am taken to a page where I get a full list of stuff to add in

Once you add freecaller then you also have to add your familes mobile numbers to the list of mobile overrides -please note that by adding a number does allow that person to route all their calls via your onetel account (if they use the access code) and so bill YOU for all THEIR calls !!!
  • OneTels FreeCaller ,and Mobile Override are two seperate products.

Freecaller only allows free calls between OneTel Landline and OneTel Mobile Products ,and vice versa only.It doesnt allow you to call other networks mobiles from your FOC,and vice versa.
    See:http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?node=extras-freecaller

Mobile Override allows cheaper calls from nominated mobiles via a 020 access number to Intl destinations.(If you can you would be better off using a 07744 access number from your mobile. As these calls come out of your inclusive minutes.)Where as OneTel Charge for Intl Leg of call.

What i'm saying is the 'Add Plan Extra' is not in the box next to the Freecaller option. Its blank, empty, non existant! All the other 'Add Plan Extra' links are next to the other plans/options..

    Edit:

Just managed to add it by going via a different menu where I had to tick the freecaller box on the left then press 'change' at the bottom.

Can you explain how the 'mobile override' actually works i.e you have to enter onetels number before hand or does the sim get an update so it uses the access number automatically. If its the latter then I have an orange sim that I hav'nt changed over to my details yet so if anything goes wrong I would'nt be able to get hold of orange to sort it out. (Edit again) Just seen pricefighters comment about it being an 020 number - So no mods are done to your sim?
  • its an access code - if you dont use it your calls go thru orange

I made test calls to the three mobiles I registered today so will know if the calls are free in 2 to 3 days when they show up online in "unbilled calls"

    Lets get things straight.

Are you using the mobile override access service and calling the mobile override access number 0207 018 8001.

What mobile networks are you are calling.

Are you calling them from a landline or an Mobile.

Why does the call go through to Orange if you dont use the access number ?, surely if i called it from eg:a Voda Mobile it would not go thru Orange.

What gives you the idea that OneTel offer free calls to mobiles.(Apart from their own regd OneTel Mobiles using the Freecaller service.) Can you show us a link on their site where it says this please.
