The last email mentioned using Abroadtel to call mobiles from landlines. I see this has now changed to Dialwise, which is good: I called a mobile number twice using Abroadtel and, each time, it told me it was "engaged". I immediately called it using 1899 and got through. Abroadtel had made 10p out of me for nothing.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

    Hi Martin,

Could you maybe please add UK to the callchecker, as in local landline and mobile call providers? Then all the call information is in the one spot. Just an idea.

    Cheers

I think you will find in the E-Mail before last Martin MSE said he was going to bring out a UK Call checker shortly.
If you visit the https://www.saynoto0870.com site and search under links you will find one there.

I have been signed up to Onetel for some time. on the StandardUK talk package (free). If you go to the online Service Centre they have a 'freecaller' option. This allows free calls between telephone numbers you have registered with OneTel.

So, I get free calls to my parents and the in-laws.

You can also sign up your mobile for 'Mobile Over-ride'. then you get to call your mobile, from your home phone, for free!

So far I haven't actually used the 'mobile over-ride' on the mobile phone, but I can still call it for free.

[in reply to April2 and pricefighter, my mobile (Orange), my wife's mobile (Tesco), and my sister-in-law's mobile (Vodafone) are all registered on my OneTel account. The calls to them are most definitely FREE - I would be happy to post the bill if asked!

My mother's and mother-in-law's BT lines are also registered, and I am pretty certain that calls to them are free at all times.]

I'm not sure you've fully understood what's on offer there. I think you'll find 'Freecaller' only applies to landline to mobile and mobile to landline calls (not landline to landline - except at weekends) and the mobile has to be one for which you're paying OneTel monthly 'line' rental.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

Cab. As far as i am aware Onetel do not offer free calls to other users of Onetel like other cps providers do eg Talk Talk.Calls would of course be free if your package offered free calls at the time you were calling. But lets say for example you were on the evening an weekend package, and you phoned another Onetel user at peak rate you would be charged i think you will find.

The Freecaller option you mention only allows free calls inbound between a One Tel Contract phone and a One Tel registered landline owned by the same person.

Yesterday I was happily using AbroadTel (mind I have to admit that the first time I tried I didn't realise you needed to dial 0044 first so wherever 079465... is, sorry if I got you out of bed ! :o ).

Today Abroadtel says that I need to dial an 0871 number instead but their homepage still offers a summer special of UK mobiles at 5p/min.

    FYI, Dialwise is 10p/min and is on 0871 999 48 48

For better quality lines why not use 1899.3p connection, and 10p a minute peak and evenings,3p at weekends. At least they dont charge if you dont get through.

1899 is not accepting any new registrations at present (and I've tried to register more than once ...)

That's a common problem for which (usually) the solution is to register using your mobile number and, when that has been successful, log into your account and add your landline number (and delete the mobile of you want to).

I have no idea why it works, but it appears to!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
