IMPORTANT- managed payments

You hear a lot of stories on the banking forums about accounts getting closed because they use a personal account for business activities which then go against the banks terms and conditions. I would investigate further.2

Someone on a different forum has pointed out that the message on the seller dashboard where it used to say (for many of us) that we needed to register before 15th July it now says
eBay is now managing paymentseBay is now managing payments
Most business sellers will be activated for managed payments in 2020. Get your business ready early and register now. We’ll notify you before activating your account for managed payments, starting in Most business sellers will be activated for managed payments in 2020. Get your business ready early and register now. We’ll notify you before activating your account for managed payments, starting in late July 2020.late July 2020. Managed payments provides sellers one place to sell and get paid on eBay and buyers more ways to pay
Apparently according to those who have contacted customer services the original message wasn’t meant to imply what it suggested and there was never any obligation to sign up this early, and they will get round to us all eventually , just a little slower that suggested. In the US it looks like they are already a year behind signing up the majority of sellers .

My latest message from ebay is " If you miss the registration deadline, from late July, we will start to restrict your ability to create new listings." I hadn't seen that before.0

I had that message too and it has only strengthened my determination to delay signing up until the absolute very last minute!

I have that message too and feel it's like blackmail. I can't get a right answer out of them and feel most annoyed as the fees are more for FVF's and I just recently upgraded to a featured shop.
I keep asking on twitter but all they write back is contact managed payments on their number which today isn't available.0 -
I wish I had written to Martin Lewis now for his show to ask Ebay that question about restrictions.
If you go into ebay help, it says you can't list certain items whilst on managed payments, but in my email it's making out I can't list anything!
eBay already manages payments for thousands of sellers. Time's flying by and you only have a few weeks left to register for managed payments.
This is your third reminder that your account will be enabled starting late July - If you miss the registration deadline, from late July, we will start to restrict your ability to create new listings.

Also had the email yesterday - was quite shocked by the tone of the message - sounded quite threatening.
Just been working out how much extra I'll be paying in fees. As pointed out in one of the posts on ebay community - important to remember eBay fees are exc. VAT unlike PayPal so for example the 30p transaction fee will actually be 36p. Going to be quite a bit more expensive for sole traders or small businesses on micropayments.
I've read a few comments from people saying they will stop selling on ebay and just sell elsewhere - does anyone use other platforms for business sales? Are there any good alternatives?2 -

The email says basically that if we don't sign up then our accounts will be restricted, so yes, if we don't sign up for a new scheme that has unclear pricing and an unknown start date then we can no longer list at some yet to be specified time in the future.
