Curious & confused .... surely, one has to be over age 18 to get into debt .. and therefore not a child.
Surely the debt ads are aimed at parents ... can any child understand the concept of debt?
I'm not at all clear about the reasons why the campaign is to target debt-advertising on TV.
Have I missed something?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Yes you have missed something. There is now pester power of children to get their parents to borrow - we're educating our youth into these debts. Children are singing the slogans, its normalising this type of borrowing, the worst type - secured loans.
When the campaign is launched properly, I've a full article with research on the impact of these ads on kids.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I'm confused about this one too and as ads bring in the revenue .........what should replace them, more ADS for childrens toys (don't parents get miffed when that happens, bombarding the children with images of the latest fad))or fast-food (bad for them)or other unsuitable ADS0 -

Surely the young ones are just repeating the ads but not really understanding them ............and the parents can educate the children as to what it really means .
but I shall go now and wait for the article0 -
OK Traf to answer you briefly
Surely the young ones are just repeating the ads but not really understanding them?
I think 8 - 12 year olds are perfectly capable of understanding debt and pester power. However this isn't just about debt, this is specifically about secured debt, the worst type - you say parents can educate their kids, sadly not - many people don't know the difference, it's undue pressure on many already financially stretched people.
Now can we finish the discussion
I know i'm being cheeky and having the last word. Yet this thread is for monitoring the ads. When i launch the campaign there will be a full discussion thread for the issues, but this isn't the place
