  • Satisfied Monmouthshire customer here, two letters arrived over the weekend and two accounts funded as of this morning. Their very competitive rates at the moment more than outweigh any minor procedural clunkiness. IMO.
Can you fund the MONBS RS Issue 2 straight away? I thought I had to wait until they've received my signed letter and registered me etc.

If you've got the 10-digit account number then you can add funds.

You may wish to wait until you have online access if you want to verify the deposit.

Just spoken on the phone to Stafford Railway Building Society, their Regular Saver now accepts up to £1,000 per month and the interest is going up to 5.15% from 1st October 2023. Plus you can start with a lump sum (£1,000 I think), so potentially in the first month you can put in £2,000. No term on it, so only deposit restriction is a maximum of £100k in the account.
    Save £12k in 2023 #17: £19,085/£24,000 (79%)
    Save £12k in 2022 #5: £18,007/£18,000 (100%)
    Save £12k in 2021 #17: £18,012/£18,000 (100%)
    Save £12k in 2020 #25: £15,522/£15,000 (103%)
    Save £12k in 2019 #112: £10,963/£10,500 (104%)
  • I received my Monmouthshire Savings Passbook in the post today .... I haven't had a passbook for a good 30 years I think!  It's so cute 😊

"That’s not all – as a valued existing Regular Saver we are offering you the exclusive opportunity to make a one-off contribution, into your regular savers account, of up to £12,000 before 31/12/2023."

But Santander 5.2% EA ripples may influence choices...

If the account is opened on 25th August 2023 and a month is a calendar month, are we sure that the end date of the  "12 months" is not 31st of August 2024?
In common with all other BS, maturity is on the 12 month anniversary of opening the account i.e 25th August 2024.

This is the detail from my MonBS RS:

    Account Information

    Product Name:CORONATION REGULAR SAVER
    Date Opened26/04/2023
    Next Interest Due Date31/03/2024
Is "Next Interest Due Date" the same as Maturity Date?
There is an anomaly on this account.
    In one place it states:-
    • Interest is variable and calculated on a daily basis on the balance in the account and paid at the end of the 12-month term.
    Elsewhere it states:-

    •  Interest is paid annually and can be added to the account or paid into a suitable bank/ building society account or suitable Monmouthshire Building Society account following close of business 31 March.
Looking at my, MONBS online, all my accounts show interest to be payable 31st March, however, this is wrong and contradicts the actual account terms

I have now had written clarification from Monmouth regarding interest payment date as follows:

"....... I can also confirm that the interest is paid at the end of the term for the Coronation Regular Saver"

Loughborough BS are finally raising some of their regular saver rates according to moneyfacts:
Limited Access Monthly Saver rises to 4.75% (up from 3.75%) from tomorrow. Still a poor rate but it's not often Loughborough raise their variable regular saver rates. Regular Saver Issue 1 is still showing as 2.5% on moneyfacts though.
