I have a Saffron BS Small Saver (Issue 7) that is earning a paltry 4% AER until Dec. I know they don't allow people to hold more than one regular saver/small saver, but if I were to close the one I have and open the one that's on offer now at 5.75%, would I still get the 4% paid to a/c closure?
To echo Bridlington1's post, don't ask for the existing account to be closed, instead ask them to upgrade it to the latest version.  You can also swap between the Small Saver and the Members' Regular Saver.

You keep the same account number, passbook, and original account opening date.

Looks like the Monmouthshire Regular Saver at 7% NLA   Only the Exclusive Regular Saver at 8% showing on  their website now.
It's no longer showing on moneyfacts so it appears to have become another blink and you'll miss it type of savings account.

The product page is still on their website though and the application form appears to be working for now so for those who didn't apply yesterday it may still be possible to get one open if you're quick:
    https://www.monbs.com/savings/regular-saver/
    https://www.monbs.com/savings/apply-online-regular-saver/

EDIT: For future reference I've now also archived the product page along with the account specific Ts&Cs on the wayback machine:
    https://web.archive.org/web/20230824044431/https://www.monbs.com/savings/regular-saver/

EDIT AGAIN: Links appear to have been removed.
You can also sometimes access a recently removed product via the cached link on google (though not for this product, at least not anymore).

I managed to open a Secure Trust isa mid-morning last Wednesday which was no longer on their website, but  which the Google bot had scraped earlier that morning.

I received my welcome letter and passbook for the Monmouthshire BS Exclusive Regular Saver account (8.00%) in today's mail.

The letter and passbook includes the account number, sort code and roll number details needed to make a faster payment deposit.

I am still awaiting the opening of the 7.00% Regular Saver, but I've been told that they have received my application and will be processing it in due course.
Impressively quick, do you live in South Wales?

Were you able to add/access the new account online (if you use it)?

No, I live in England and many, many miles away from South Wales.

I have added the new account online, but the Monmouthshire needs to approve it.  I expect that they'll do that soon.

  • Everything about Monmouthshire BS seems so archaic, Their website is awful, they only use snail mail and who nowadays needs a passbook. They seem to have no automated systems for anything.
I applied on Tuesday for the 7% saver and I have not received an email, text or anything in the post so far,
I am wondering whether to pursue with it, because if it is this tedious to just set an account up, what is it like trying to withdraw money from it.

    Monmouthshire BS

Never had a problem once the account was set up.  Withdrawals go without a hitch.

Well Yorkshire BS is the third largest BS (Coventry at second place just beats them), but their IT is also awful.  I couldn't open a Loyalty ISA on line because their IT doesn't recognise my 20 years membership, so I had to go into a Branch to open an ISA which came with a passbook (even though the account can be managed online).  Withdrawals are next day, and their online banking is often painfully slow.

Ultimately, you need to decided whether or not the attractive interest rate trumps the drawbacks.
