Yes I agree, does seem a bit archaic having to go into a branch or send a letter to open an account these days, but I guess for some of the smaller BS's the cost to move everything online is maybe too high for them to outweigh the benefits.allegro120 said:
Thank you for sharing. Good news. I wish they would also develop an application system that doesn't require sending letters and ownerships of printers.t1redmonkey said:Just thought I'd share some info that was mentioned to me by a branch worker when I opened the Monmouthshire BS Coronation Saver recently; they are apparently developing an app at the moment which they are hoping to release later this year, so should be a bit more convenient for those of us who prefer using apps to access their accounts

Spoke to Monmouth llast Friday and said I was sending my application form and wanted to pay by bank transfer. They said fine and asked me where I was sending it and I said the head office address at the bottom of the form, which they said was also fine.

Saffron is also small, but somehow they manage to deal with applications electronically.t1redmonkey said:

If we class size as being total assets, according to the BSA 2021/22 yearbook, Saffron is the 16th largest BS out of 43, and H&R is the 19th largest.allegro120 said:

Some societies much smaller than H&R are able to accept online applications for at least some of their range. To name a few: Ecology 39th, SRBS 38th, Chorley 36th, Harpenden 35th, Bath 32nd, Mansfield 28th, Scottish 26th, Dudley 25th, MHBS 24th, Melton 23rd.
Ultimately, online applications are much more convenient, but it is a cost some societies aren't willing to incur at these stage. It just depends on how important they view it to be - and likely also member feedback, combined with demographic data (if a society wants to attract younger members (young adult kind of age), they will be more likely to put funds towards developing their technology). Bear in mind, some societies will be in the early stages of developing such processes, so may not be willing to reveal their plans to members yet. The AGM tends to be the best place to ask these questions I find, especially if you can submit it beforehand, to ensure a comprehensive response. If you want me to definitely see your reply, please tag me @forumuser7 Thank you.

I wish Nationwide opened up their Flex RS again...I don't see why they've stopped anyone applying for it for the last 6 months or so, since it means the only regular saver they have open to applicants is the Start to Save one.2

It might depend on the branch you sent it to. I've mine sent to Monmouth branch, it could be that some other branches are more busy.Ps3725 said:
