This is why you have at least one of your current accounts set to paper statements IMHO. It saves the hassle of ordering statements, certifying them and all that magubbins. All I had to do was fill the form, plonk it and an original statement in the prepaid envalope and bung it in a postbox.silvercar said:

Most banks should send you an original bank statement if you ask them. Certainly NatWest do.Bridlington1 said:

Do you happen to have a Starling Bank account? They allow you to generate a certified bank statement. Takes a minute or two to generate and print.silvercar said:I have a letter from Monmouthshire BS this morning requiring an original or certified bank statement of the account to withdraw to.

Great news! If you use Online Banking with paperless statements and you need paper copies as evidence of your identity or income, we can arrange to send some to you free of charge. You can ask for up to 3 months of paper statements twice in a 12 month period. To order, please chat to Cora, your digitalsilvercar said:I have a letter from Monmouthshire BS this morning requiring an original or certified bank statement of the account to withdraw to.

Also, I verified my nominated a/c with MON, albeit a fair while ago by sending a crossed cheque to them. They may still accept that.2 -
@band7 's point re starling bank is spot on - if you want that to be your nominated account, or proof of address. I tend to have VM as my nominated account, so if for some reason I forgot to withdraw funds once they'd arrive, up to £1000 of the funds would still earn interest - all be it at a low rate. What I have found recently is when I've asked, lots of building societies will accept a deposit cheque as proof of nominated account. This is certainly much easier for me than having to order a one off statement. @Bridlington1 I used to get paper statements for at least one account at all times, but found I was obsessively and potentially unnecessarily keeping originals. Hopefully all banks/building societies will start to accept documentation printed off online soon.Bridlington1 said:

Have you got a link to the source please? NatWest tried to charge me last time, so I didn't bother. Wondered if that policy has changed, but the help article still suggests a cost for statements (as opposed to transaction history): https://supportcentre.natwest.com/Linked/eBanking/913226332/How-can-I-get-a-copy-of-my-statement.htmWheres_My_Cashback said:

They only charge £3 if you want a duplicate of an original statement because maybe you lost/destroyed it. If you've never had an original statement then I'm pretty sure all banks provide them FOC (limitations).ForumUser7 said:

As this has nothing to do with RS, why not set up a new thread where I'm sure you'll get a better response.adindas said:Does anyone have the list or at least naming a few bank accounts those- Allow hardcopies of Bank Statements Instead of online without jeopardising rewards, perks (if any)- Allow no fees hard copies of Bank statement to be sent to your address if you already have it online ??- Could generate a certified bank statement online and to be printed, apart from Starling Bank.Is it useful to be prepared just in case in the future banks, BS are offering competitive RSA and asking for proof of address, etc.7 -

A (free) transaction history on headed paper that is sufficient for both proof of income and proof of address should also be sufficient as proof of ownership (i.e. account confirmation). I don't see a need for wasting £3 for a copy of an original statement that takes 12-16 working days to arrive and isn't even sufficient as proof of address.
Asking for certified copies of anything, unless it's a legal matter, is antiquated bureaucracy, coming from a building society still so pivotally reliant on manual processes they can't even manage to keep abreast of working practices this side of the millennium.
I used to keep paper originals of everything back when visa applications demanded them, but around five years ago they upgraded their systems and accepted digital originals as well as scanned copies. Since then I haven't needed paper versions of anything, not even when purchasing property, and the trend is only going one way.

Just opened Chorley regular saver this afternoon - at end of application process it said sorry you cannot open ghis accohnt.. But within 20 mins had registration code for online services and registered. Sent them a message through online enquiry form and was answered in 30 mins. Very impressed, not like Coventry (still waiting for paper application form 3 weeks later) and Mansfield (the same)0

Back to Monmouth, I had already paid in a cheque from the nominated bank account, so really this extra effort is unnecessary. I wonder what happens if I fail to verify the bank account. Presumably they will send me a cheque when I close the account. That may prove to be less hassle.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
