Just wondering why this is not included on Page 1 - is it new ?

1 Year Reg saver, max £250PM, 1.25% AER variable, Age 21+, no postcode restrictions mentioned, new members welcome, open Post/Branch Only.
I'd go for this but seems you have to call and post stuff out. A bit too much hassle for £20.
Why do you have to call them? Application forms are on their web site.

I can't be doing with all this 'send documents signed by a person of standing'.
When I opened my regular saver with Furness BS a short time back, due to the covid stuff they did away with that rule and just let you send a basic photo copy job done.
    Sod it for £20.
Plus I don't think I know any one of standing!
I do agree in this case it's not worth bothering for ~£20, but you only need to certify the documents if you're not sending originals. You could just send original documents you wouldn't mind losing, for example an HMRC Tax Code notification letter and a bank statement would appear to satisfy the Dudley's ID requirements.
This is exactly how I opened a Scottish Building Society account earlier this month - just sent original documents that I wouldn't particularly care if I lost.

This link didn't work for me. I got a "page doesn't exist" error.

That style of link was used in the previous version of the forum, which was superseded nearly a year ago - OP needed to create a new version of this thread and must have left the old link in the first post.

I'm not aware of a feature to go directly to the last post as such, but the current version of the forum software automatically appends '#latest' to the thread address, which will take you to the post after the one you last read, so this works well for those regularly revisiting the same thread and not wanting to miss anything.  Alternatively, navigation by page numbers is possible (it may only be fully visible in landscape mode when viewing on mobile devices) and this should include a button to take you to the last page.

Mine matured at the end of December. I received a letter which would take instructions through a return letter/pre-paid envelope (service centre now in Sunderland FYI). However, the letter encourages you to use their online access and send them a message within their portal.

Slightly hazy about what happened but on the day of maturity I think that I set up the online access in one sitting, no need to wait for any letters to confirm, you are straight in after setup, and I sent the message. They already have your recipient bank details so low and behold, the next day the money had been transferred.

I sent my passbook in the envelope and got a call a week ago asking what I wanted done with it (completed and returned, of course). At this point they also offered to send me an application form to open another Regular Saver without having to go into the branch (the rate is 1%, I did not take up the offer).

Rather different from the handwritten passbooks and numerous forms you were given when going into the branch, and having to trudge over to Kent! Alas, really I have missed my annual pilgrimage this time.

    Anyway, hope that helps.

Thanks. Indeed, it is complete waste of time traveling when it could be dealt with online or via the phone.

At least they will just waste their time if they are trying influencing me to cross sell their other products that I do not need.

I think the bank should stop thinking that we are naive to get influenced by them to buy the products we do not need.

If they want to restrict people access to the product they could limit it by restricting it to their current customers and/or those who live close to their branches.
1% fixed rate with no withdrawal is just waste of time to apply. It is the right decision you did not take that offer.

What is their ID verification policy? Will they want signed documents? This would preclude it in our case.

And it's only a £20 return if the variable rate does not drop during the 12 months!
Well it is better than minimum wage is it not ?? B)

Minimum wage will be increased to £8.91 per hour in April this year.

So £20 for 12 months, I would suggest is not better than minimum wage! 🤔
  • Hi Everybody,

Here is this weekend's update to this thread.

I cannot find anything to change on the thread.

The Dudley BS account mentioned in the posts above is not good enough to meet the criteria for inclusion on this thread, which is why it is not on page 1.

I will do the next update next weekend.

Does make me wonder why then, has this account (copied from P1) as an example been included, when it has more restrictions than the one above by only being avaible to a tiny fraction of the population?

Just trying to clarify exactly what are the rules of inclusion? With ever decreasing rates and restrictions being placed on accounts nowadays maybe the thresholds should be adapted to reflect 'modern' times?
