Am I reading this right?, you can only manage the Virgin account by the website not app?.

It's a great rate, been a long time since Virgin have done a regular saver (think it was when I started with Virgin and that was before Clydesdale took over)

You have to open it by website, but once opened it appears on the Virgin Money app for me and you can pay out of it, it appears to any payee you have set up.

There is no stated "current account must be opened before" date - as someone mentioned this seems to be a play that may be intended to attract customers, similar to FD's reg saver (and well most other big bank reg savers). And of course notably not similar to the strategy of their soon owner Nationwide and the other building societies.

Anyway I think this account is an absolute winner - the website says:
    • As the maximum balance you can earn interest on increases each month by £250, if you don’t manage to save your full £250 in any month, you can pay more in the next or future months.

      and
    • Yes. You can take money out at any time.

So it's as flexible as can be for a reg saver - even better than the 5.5% Nationwide Start to Save which I might now ditch - I was keeping it around because I liked the fact you could take out as much as you wanted and put it back in again within the same month, this is better than that. (Although I don't think I actually want to take any money out of this account given the high rate!)

    Progressive
Several efforts to put in the carefully copied code to my phone when aiming to log on - all failed

Just opened this account last week!
I logged in last night and funded it with the first £300!

I had a few issues with the 5 stage opening process though!

    Its was a laborious application!

First got warning message on my phone about browser not fully supporting the Progressive website!
Tried anyway, got to contact details, didn't like my Mob number, multiple attempts, both with and without the 0 at the beginning!

Next issue, put in full post code, search results return all completely wrong addresses?

Can't progress to next stage, stuck refreshing page!

Gave up, switched to Firefox, still very glitchy, had to have SMS/email codes resent,  finally got the application accepted!

Log in is working ok for me so far, sometimes my SMS code takes a while to come through!

Paid first deposit with debit card, balance updated almost instantly!

The website is not really optimised for using on your phone, but I wont be using it much!

I'm on hold to Virgin Money Savings, busy, obviously.

Thing is while applying the need help phone number given is actually the current account phone line.

I don't think Virgin have thought things through, tested things out beforehand *SIGH*

I've also had this issue.  I just skipped my middle address (the address I spent least time at), and entered my current one, and the one I started the 3 year period at, and I got the account opened.  Not saying it'll definitely work if you do the same, but it did work for me to just not enter the second address.
