Frankly I don't understand people coming onto a MSE page and wasting energy saying getting X money more is a waste of time - whilst negatively posting on here seemingly isn't.

Each to their own I guess.

I have just opened up the YBS Christmas Saver too.  I just have this and Nationwide 8% RS so far this year.  The rest of our savings go into the YBS internet saver or savings spaces to be spent on cars/holidays/house etc.

I think it's useful to hear both sides. It helps me to decide if it's worth it for me personally.
I wouldn’t call it both sides. £6.79 over a standard 5% account is just a neutral informative fact.

I tried on and off for an hour to apply for a YBS Christmas regular saver. There seem to be issues with them having to check every single detail and then spending ages getting back to you.................

Never mind, if this doesn't work then they'll be another bus soon!

I think I've broken it - this should be my 6th or 7th YBS account but for some reason it's blocked from deposits while they 'carry out further checks'
    Mine too.

I was opening it only as a ‘just in case YBS are more competitive than their competitors as variable rates reduce’ so I’m not in any rush.

I agree! £6.79 is just that and it's there for the taking for a few minutes work! Unfortunately, my application seems to be taking ages while they check everything........... :/

  • Typically changed my mind on the YBS Xmas Saver and opened it with a quid. Doubt I'll be able to put the maximum in but come Summer/Autumn having a 6% saver may be more beneficial than it is now so why not.
  • Going to open the YBS Christmas saver simply because I see you can pay in a minimum of £1 by debit card which will satisfy the x5 payments I need to make when my new Co-op switch goes through to qualify for their bonus.  Will also make a couple of payments from my mostly dormant Nationwide account for the next three months in case they offer the Fair Share deal again this year.

It may also come in handy to be a member for future offers and there is a branch within walking distance of my home if ever needed.
