Afternoon - sat here with a cuppa and the sun beaming in through my office window. Rain forecast tonight, though!
TAURUSGB - at 17 absolutely everything is Mum's fault!
Hi CHA97MICHELLE - welcome!
JENNIO - you most certainly do not smell - we are all sweet and fragrant on here, honest! Somewhere on here there is a 'tutorial' re all the initials; I'll see if I can find it in a minute.
MEANMARIE - so sorry to hear about your cousin's EXDIL - 44 years old, that's awful. (((Hugs))) to her and her family.
PATENTGIRL and TAPLADY - the car insurance is horrendous right now but it will drop drastically when they reach 25. My DS2 couldn't believe how much cheaper it became. He still hates paying it, though - don't we all.
AUSSIE - you're so right about the knitting. I find it so soothing and the fact that you get results is a bonus. I felt sad hearing that it feels lonely on here when we're all asleep - you'll have to change your habits and become nocturnal. Or, an even better idea - all those who are cruel to you (and they know who they are!) should take it in turns to stay up all night to keep you company!
CHALKY - good to hear from you and glad OH is enjoying retirement. Where in Spain are you?
SCUZZ - roll on 2008 - it's been a rotten year for you, hasn't it? I really hope the New Year brings much better luck and love for you.
Well, I managed to wrap all the presents for my sister to take back after her weekend here. I've never wrapped so fast, and, of course, the whole family is breeding like mad - every year there is at least one new baby somewhere amongst our lot! My spare bedroom is a sea of wrapping paper and ribbon - the grandchildren would love it.
I've also been to the gym and then the bank - the cheque I was expecting actually turned up this morning (at 11.45 - that appears to be the new time for our post!). I find it a real nuisance having to wait in because I like to get all my errands done before lunch but I fear the Royal Mail are going to alter my routine for me from now on. I do wish they'd asked first.
Well, I'd better do some work - it's the end of the month now and I need to bump up my earnings. Oh, I had some success against one of the big boys! When the Portman merged with the Nationwide a few weeks ago, I had my bonus - all of £200 - but it had been taxed. At the moment I don't earn quite enough to pay tax and I had sent them an R85 form declaring this in May (it had to be in by the end of July, so it went in early enough). Anyway, the tax was £40 so I wrote and asked them for it. They wrote back and said that an 'error on their system' (now, there's a surprise) meant that the R85 had been received but wasn't applied to my account, but I could reclaim the money from the Inland Revenue. I wrote back and said that, as it was their error, I should not have to inconvenience myself claiming it back and please send me a cheque. I had another letter - from a different person - saying that they had not received my R85. I wrote back saying - in a very polite way - 'well, one of you is telling porkies' and threatening to invoice them for the interest that had been lost while they kept my money and, also, my time at £15 an hour, postage and photocopying charges. I had a letter yesterday apologising profusely, enclosing a cheque for £40 and a form so that I can still claim it back from the Inland Revenue! A result and another MSE win! I'm so pleased even thought I have to fill in the form to get the other £40. I'm just pleased that they didn't get away with it.
Anyway, I'm going to see if I can find the blurb about the initials we all use, for JENNIO.
Laters!

JENNIO - All the abbreviations are here! You'll soon get used to them all. I use them without thinking now and have to remember not to use them when I'm typing something that's got nothing to do with MSE!

afternoon all!
Mioliere - DS is still only 17 - 18 in january so he has a few expensive years ahead of him yet! its ridiculous really, the insurance is over a grand more than the price of the car!
Pipkin - thanks for asking DS is fine now, pleased with his new car.
Went to tax DS1s new car and couldn't as it was registered as a disabled carso I have to do it by post or go to Worcester(nearly an hours drive) to do it in person. decided thats what I'll do tomorrow, will take too long by post.
have finished the painting:j and am shattered but still got loads to do here. ironing is waiting for me and I also want to make some banana and walnut muffins or a loaf with some squashy bananas.
Hope you're all having a good day
(((hugs))) to Tired mum and Ds xxDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Afternoon all,
Just got back from the orthdontist with DD, she does not need a brace, in fact he said her teeth are very nearly perfect, so WHY did my dentist refer me, 30 miles out of my way to have a 5 min appointment, and nothing to be done, still its good to know her teeth are ok.
Tired mum, hopefully your DS will have had a better day today, let us know how he got on xx
:j welcome back chalky xx
CHA97MICHELLE hello and welcome x
Hugs to meanmarie (bet you are not mean really x )
Hugs to all those feeling under the weather or down xx0 -
we are all sweet and fragrant on here, honest!
Yes, sweet and fragrant courtesy of 'Eau de Vinaigre'
OH just rang - he *loves* his new job, and he said he is probably going to earn in a week what I earn in a month:j . I am so pleased.
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Big thanks to Mioliere!:T :T :T
Well thank god I now can call my 'partner' my SO or my OH because frankly I hate the word partner. I always feel a 'howdy partner' coming on and being in my late 30's, I feel 'boyfriend' isn't quite right either.
Confession: Until now, I thought OH stood for 'old husband' for those who felt 'darling husband' just didn't seem to fit! ROFLMAO! huh! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Thanks again!0 -
Glad to be of service, JENNIO! You'll have learned them all very soon. In some cases, OH would be good for 'old husband' - it depends on how k*******d my DH looks when he gets home from work! ROFLMAO! LOL!
BLAIRWEECH - If I was you, I'd retire and become a kept woman! It's wonderful that he loves his new job - you must be delighted.
REDRUBY - it's good that your DD does not need a brace. I was a dental nurse in my previous life and my boss said far too many children are given braces unnecessarily but, on the other hand, they work wonders where they are needed.
TAPLADY - I can see it's going to cost a fortune until he reaches the magic age of 25. I do think the insurance companies use age as an excuse to really rack up the charge. Anyway, at least he's almost back on the road.
Well, better go and organise dinner, I suppose.
See y'all later.

Afternoon all
Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Miss Pooky - she said to thank you all.
Had a very easy day as my parents where here, just sat and drank tea and caught up with all their news.
Dinner tonight it DD's birthday treat of fish and chips followed by chocolate cake and chocolate fountain (I can feel my waist band straining at the thought).
Need to be up early tomorrow as we're having Sky installed - got a great deal on phone/net/tv and £135 cash back via quidco (although it's tracked twice so currently showing £270 - ooooops - wonder if they'll notice???) We'll actually be £3 per month better off with this than our current net/phone provider so we're happy.
We've just had a huge new Asda open in the next town so Mr T's sent me lots of lovely vouchers to entice me to stay with them - by using the vouchers and my xmas clubcard vouchers I'll get £100 of shopping for £9.50 of real money - that will help.
Hugs to all those poorly ones - that sicky bug isn't much fun - luckily my 2 have had it this year (am I tempting fate there???)
Hope you all have a great evening."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
