  • Well we’ve called up our credit card company again because we thought we still needed the visas but we don’t. We might as well chuck them away. They agree with us and they’ve sent it to the disputes team. Wait and see.

Im sorry but why would a credit card company entertain a chargeback on this? What service is not being provided?

exactly, chargebacks should not be used for this at all
Its no different to buying a sofa for £1000 and then finding it half price in a sale the week later, you wouldnt do a chargeback there either.
Depends. I brought a PS4 in the Black Friday sale. Two weeks later it was reduced further by £50. I went in and they gave me the £50 back in my card. (Argos)
Same with a bag and shoes from John Lewis. They refunded £85 when a week later they were reduced 30% on that occasion both we’re used.
    It doesn't depend.
You're describing 2 goodwill gestures from retailers.
That's nothing like a chargeback from your credit card company.

Your example was also from a retailer and I was making the point you don’t ask you don’t get.
I didn't say there wasn't any point in asking.
Like most of the other replies, I think the chances are pretty close to zero.
    But do ask.
  • As you can get them as late as 3 days in advance, or on arrival, theoretically people had no reason to lose out. Anyone travelling after the visa charge is being dropped has no need to have already obtained them. Of course some people will have, but the Turkish government aren't going to refund them for having done so. It's also not a scenario where section 75 would apply.

Could be that the Visa requirement may be changed again prior to travelling.

I expect the Tax on booze in Turkey will be increased to cover the loss of revenue.

  • I have bought 6 visas for my family holiday to Turkey in April, but they are no longer required after 2nd March. I have contacted the Turkish Ministry and they have said visas purchased up to 2nd March are still valid, we don't travel until April. Any advice please
  • Yes. See the ongoing thread.
  •  Suck it up as bad luck.

Chances are that the call handler wouldn't have the authority or the knowledge to judge on the validity of the claim to they would send any request to the "disputes" team. They are just "agreeing" with you to be polite. I would be amazed if you got anything back.

Whenever I've got a Turkish visa in the past I've left it until a few days before travel as there is no advantage to get one earlier as the expiry date runs from when it was issued, not the date of first entry.
