I've never really worked out why you can't carry over HEXs like you can with syns denise. It doesn't make much sense really.
It occurred to me tete that if you're doing a veggie Lent then you could use the old Green plan sometimes. Then you could have 2 HEAs ad 2 HEBs and it's not so hard and fast on the one third Speed either. It might be worth thinking about if you fancy a sandwich or something on toast for an easy meal.
We're having Bolognese today as I'm out this afternoon and need a quick meal. I was thinking last night that I need to think of more batch cooked/pre prepped meals. I really don't mind having a long cooking session every now and again but I am getting a bit fed up with taking ages to cook a one off meal that gets eaten so relatively quickly. Does that make sense?
    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, half banana, skinny syrup (F), HEB porage with HEA1 milk
L: LO chicken free casserole (F,S,P)
D- SW Bolognese (P,S) with tagliatelle (F) and HEA2 Parmesan
    Syns: None

Ooh, that is so useful to know, thanks! Red/green days are before my time so I know nothing about them, but looking through veggie recipes last night I was concerned that I might need to make my meals quite carb-heavy to fill me up.

Re. carrying over HEs - someone asked this on the podcast I listen to this week but it wasn't satisfactorily answered to my mind. The consultant ended up basically saying "The plan works as it is, don't overthink it"  :/

Well done Vegastare - that's a great loss! I'm getting used to the forum now I think - really wish we could change the text colour though.

I agree Maman about carrying over HEX's.  I've synned my extra bread today but to be honest I've gone over Syns because of it but hopefully I'll still be in target tomorrow.  I'll have a quick look in the morning and if it looks like I'm out of range I'll just go a bit later so it's too late to weigh when I get there and then I can conveniently "forget" at the end, LOL!

The syn values can be different on Green days to the current EE values.  Unfortunately as I'm not going to be around I can't help with those but generally there's not a huge difference except if you decide you're going to have something non veggie, although you can use meat as 2nd HEB on Green days but don't suppose you'll be doing that though!  Maybe Maman or Beanie have still got the old Red/Green books with the Syn values in.

  • Thanks Denise, I'm going to try to use free carbs as much as possible rather than bread, but it's good to know the 1/3 speed isn't as strict.

Good luck with WI tomorrow! Are you off on hols then after that?

We go next Wednesday until early April, so 4 weeks in total but I'll probably miss 6 weeks of group as will need time to try and get back in range when I return.  French bread and red wine play havoc with my weight!!!

I eat a lot of veg curries, veg chilli & veg tangines when I do Green days.  There are also quite a few veggie meal ideas on the website, the 7 day vegetarian menu might give you some ideas as well.  PON and SlimmingEats website also have quite a few Syn Free & low Syn recipes.

  • Ahh lovely French bread! :yum:

Yes some sort of aubergine and chickpea curry will be on the agenda at the weekend I think. I do wish I had planned this idea a bit more (or at all) as the freezer is full of meaty batch cooked meals.

Change of plan for tea tonight, going to make some spiced carrot and lentil soup so that I've got something to bring for lunch on Friday. Wetherspoons lunch tomorrow but I'd be having the bean chilli anyway as it's low syn.

Well done on your loss vegastare. I'd insert a clapping smiley if there was one! :s
You're definitely not alone in disliking the new site. The only positive I can think of is that it takes me straight to the last post I read on any particular thread. I think a whole nursery full of babies have been thrown out with bathwater. :s
That's right denise, I do have the old book with the Green plan in it. The different syn values do tend to be for meat products but if you're eating veggie that really won't matter. They do tend to be carb heavy tete because of adding pulses for protein . If you like chilli then definitely try the Hairy Bikers' recipe, just leave out the meat and add extra beans instead. It's lush with a jacket potato or rice and chips. I enjoy it with some cottage cheese on top.I add in all sorts of Speed too like courgettes and peppers and mushrooms and carrots as well as the usual onions. It freezes really well for a HM ready meal. :)

We're having a day out in London tomorrow so after my SW breakfast I won't be sticking to plan unless something very SW friendly appeals on a menu. I often treat myself to a sandwich for lunch on a day out too.  Back on it on Friday though.
