£60 Admin Fee on courtesy car for speeding is it enforceable ?

had my car wrote off several weeks ago due to accident on motorway , since then been driving a hire car provided by insurance company
whilst going about my day to day business last week i got flashed by one of those infernal speed spike cameras was doing 34 in a 30 zone apparently
today i received an email with an attachment the first a word document titled "client receipt for charges" which to me looks like a £60 admin charge for them to provide my details to the police
the word doc says ( thank you for your payment ) which is strange because i haven't paid them anything and they dont have my card details to charge me anything as it was all arranged through my insurance
i dont really have an issue with the speeding fine with the police there's no real getting out of it so i will just have to do the speed awareness course
what i dont agree with is this extortionate £60 admin charge the hire company are trying to levy on me for simply filling out a piece of A4 paper and sending it to the police
am i within my right to ignore this charge or should i just forward it to the insurance company ?
like i said they dont have any of my card details so not sure how exactly they think i will be paying it

When you collected the hire car, you signed paperwork, right...? What does that say about the admin fee?bingoplayer said:had my car wrote off several weeks ago due to accident on motorway , since then been driving a hire car provided by insurance company through something called auxillis car hire

And, yes, it is perfectly enforceable - and if you don't pay, they can launch a small claim against you. They will win. Continue to not pay, and watch the fees add up as the CCJ becomes a visit from men who will take things away from you. It may also be that the insurer have paid, in which case the amount will simply be added to your excess, withheld from any payout, or taken from whatever payment method they hold for you.

didn't see anything about any admin fee as i said all arranged through insurance
you say they can make a small claim but in my view that would mean trying to prove the "admin fee" isnt a penalty and at £60 i would imagine that would be pretty difficult
also i cant really see them being bothered for 60 quid
i strongly believe this is infact a penalty disguised as an "admin charge"

Only one way you'll find out, isn't there...?

Yes, you are within your rights to ignore the charge, but you also have to accept the consequences for doing so if there are any. Roll the dice if you like.
You didn't see or sign any paperwork when you collected or took delivery of the hire car? Nothing to sign off its condition, etc?1 -

yes but given this is supposedly a money saving motor advice forum i thought someone may have some actual legal knowledge on the matter

Yup sounds perfectly reasonable. You can gamble on them not pursuing it, but it might cost you more.1

I consider £60 to be unreasonable and should not be in a contract, but I guess its easier to just pay up, rather than contest it.

i do have to laugh , i wonder sometimes why the general public in Britain is so easily shafted by these companies / institutions
its quiet evident the vast majority will see a "penalty charge" and simply roll over and pay it as a matter of course adopting a
"oh well its on headed paper i must be in the wrong "
these people sitting in their ivory towers must be in ecstasy at how easy it is to take money from people

So your argument is that dealing with this ticket came at zero cost to the rental company.
Mess around and then wait until you return the car you will then find out how much they can shaft you!
