One in my town! Can't say I'm that excited though, are asda that good?0

Ah, but they've only bought 12 of the safeway/morrisons stores. So what happens to the others, eg Downpatrick (though I admit the carpark would put anyone of purchasing those premises!) and isn't there a safeway/morrisons in carryduff?0

According to the Stephen Nolan show Asda has all of the stores in Northern Ireland....0

Wow - that's excellent news. I mean, when you read about all the vouchers they accept, it can only be good for us. Tescos in Bangor already do accept loads of vouchers from me every week but I'm always just waiting for the day they stop. At least I know that Asda accepts them. Happy days! :j0

Asda didn't take on Downpatrick as apparently it will need £2 million to repair the car park alone.
I can't wait for them to arrive, though the closest stores to me will either be Coleraine or Shore Road, Belfast.0 -
Theres one in my town!
Is there anything wildly exciting about Asda though?0 -
Wildly exciting...supermarket... in the same sentence??!! Nah! As has been pointed out before their price matching policy (bring in a leaflet from another localish shop and get those prices if they are cheaper than ASDA) and their coupon acceptance policy are good. Unfortunately I didn't know about these when I lived in England for 15 years!!
The best thing about Asda is the non-food sections, especially clothes I think - they have lots of good basic things, good kiddy stuff, and a good turnover on fashionable outfits and work type clothes.
But when you compare then to Sainsbury's, Dunnes, SuperValu, Tesco...they are just another supermarket so you get a bit more choice...
I wonder what will happen to the Safeway premises in D'Patrick...has anybody heard anything about that?0 -
The lastime I was in the D'Patrick store the car park was in such a mess. Is it sinking or something?
Is there not another store that Asda didn't buy?0 -
I am originally from the Downpatrick area, and v.v.distinctly remember the big marshy soaking wet bog complete with reeds and ducks that was in the very spot where the Safeway and other stores are now. The Downpatrick people laughed very loudly when the council gave planning permission for building to take place there...but like many councils their planning permission employees were behind the door with their fingers in their ears when common sense was being issued to everyone else.
Try as they might engineers cannot argue with nature..water will always collect there, the car park will sink no matter how much underpinning they put in and regardless of the number of tarmac patches they put on. I heard that the actual buildings have v.deep foundations and probably won't sink...but who wants to swim a moat to go to flipping Asda?!0 -
lol! Thanks for the update!0
