I apologise for the layout of the thread, I'm trying to get to grips with the new forum...
What is FLYLADY?
Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle
that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often
thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the
support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also
accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe
because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who
need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly
spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in
the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is
to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to
make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally,
include some mention of flying. Thank you Valli for last week’s thread
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG
time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should
have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the
wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than
welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the
clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things
follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish
and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic
areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning
easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes
of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals
like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the
house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity
shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or
toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHIHalf Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for
30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing..
other music may be used if you prefer!
WM~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN~ nice neighbour
Toxic(friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that
seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but
it comes up often.
ETA~ Edited to add
Gibble&~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a
chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally
clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what
you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move
on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle,
you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each
dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's
Mumfor this one
RoD~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent
pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task
but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE
stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference -
so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or
weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost
the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will
get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons,
Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

I’m in. Thanks for the lists.
I did some of my accounts this evening, so at least I did something!
Valli I can now see the time on the iPad - but only if I turn it to landscape rather than portrait! 🤷♀️
Hugs, sticks and spoons to those that need them. And I hope everyone is staying safe and dry in this awful weather, especially Dizzy
Night night all x

I'm in and thanks for persevering with lists.
Wild wind and rain here in Herts/Essex but nowhere nearly as badly affected as some areas. The bird table fell over and a few buckets blew round the garden, but I think that's it - I haven't ventured far today, just walking to church service which is all of 10mins away. Have a safe week everyone.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.9 -
I'm being driven nuts by the new forum, I didn't come on last week so wasn't around when it changed over. I also hate the double spacing when writing a response but it comes up as normal spacing when posting.Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

I’m in, thanks for the lists and the support. x
I have callls to make to my Mother’s insurance company and see if she can claim for roof damage. Most of the ridge tiles have come off. Her neighbour rang me to let me know they were in the road. She had kept my phone number from the funeral details card I put through her door last year, good thinking.
spent hours today sorting my bedroom . I through lots of old toiletries and makeup out and filled a charity bag, a raffle donation bag and a rag bag. The room looks worse somehow.
ironing done

TY for Fred.
I might not be joining too much because I am lazy and OH is home ALL week.. he has a few evening shifts but other than 1 day he is home all week.. which means I get nothing done because I hate running around like a nutter while he sits and watches.. help?... hahahahahahaha.. no... just no!
Monday I have the 2 ipads being picked up for repair. 10/11am
I need to ring about the claim for solar panels, see if dr's will let me book an appointment.. they won't and I probably won't even try because it is absolutely pointless.. I am supposed to have bloods checked every 8 weeks.. but since they were last done mid-December I haven't been able to get an appointment for the results so not worth making more blood appointments when nothing has changed. I need to ring the idiot place about bills.. but I don't think I will do that either. I do however absolutely have to ring about a quote for a new back door. The heavy rain today was seeping through the actual wood of the door.. I think it may be totally deaded.
I'm sending OH outside tomorrow to clear out the lower guttering because the hopper was spilling all over the kitchen window when it was at its heaviest rainfall.
school stuff sorted for tomorrow.. need to find shoes..

Morning all
Thanks for the lists Natty and Valli.
I’m up early, couldn’t sleep, going to be a busy week work wise this week and I was lying awake fretting, I have made a cuppa and am making a list, hoping things will look more manageable once written down.
Bathroom fitter starts today, exciting that it’s finally going to be done but not really looking forward to the disruption. Heating was fixed on Friday so have that bill to pay today, eeek.
I will be mostly working off my own list this week. This morning I have to shower, s/s bathroom, get kettle and water bottles filled as water will be off most of the day. FUPA laundry and get it out of the way then set myself up with a temporary office in the dining room as that will be furthest away from the noise.Still a bit blustery here, next doors fence has two panels broken and flapping about but I think we got off lightly compared to some.Have a good day all, hugs to those in need x9 -
HiThanks for all the lists and work that goes into them.Still sorting my mind out for today.Food list to make|Beds to doSome ironingMight go volunteering but need to see what the weather is doing as I still have my cough, I have a nurse's app this week for my type 2. so I will ask if I have a chest infection or similar.Have a good weekBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Morning all [insert waving emoji - how I miss that one!)
Sorry to hear of storm damage everywhere. It's quite calm here this morning, with a blue sky, as if nothing had happened, but we've had an awful lot of heavy rain and I am counting my luck stars that I had one of the flat dormer roofs replaced last summer.
Today is going to be non-stop work, apart from having my nails done this afternoon.
I must remember to write birthday cards to deliver to four of the Old Wives at our meeting this evening, and also take the biscuits and milk for coffee time with me.
Apart from S&S, flying is on hold until at least Wednesday
(((Hugs))) spoons and sticks all round, as needed xx9
