DVLA have repeatedly failed to send me my logbook over a year

I'm now moving house, and I have no logbook.

The logbook should have been sent to me when I bought the car, and it wasn't.

At the start of 2020, I knew I would have to move house mid February, so I bit the bullet and paid them £25 to send it to me fast track.

However after doing that, and asking them to send it me yet again, I still have no log book.

I asked a representative if they track their post, they do not.
I also asked if I could change the address they are sending the log book to. They said that to do that, I would have to pay £25 again.

I'm actually pretty shocked and hurt by this treatment, I paid them the fast track money so that I could have the book well in advance. I've had repairs done to my car since then and I can't log them.

I also find it a bit concerning that they have sent 4 logbooks out now and have lost all of them, and didn't track any of them.

What should I do? I think it's insulting to have to pay it again. I've left a complaint

Why on earth would they track it.

Seems more like an issue with your post than anything.

Hurt? Seriously? Do I smell a compo claim for 'stress and anxiety' coming on.

    When was that?
Do you get V11 tax reminder sent to you? If not, how do you tax your car?

Not "fast-track". A replacement. There is no way to "fast-track" a replacement.
However after doing that, and asking them to send it me yet again, I still have no log book.
    How long have you allowed?
I asked a representative if they track their post, they do not.
Does the rest of your post go astray?
How does your post get to you? Is it left in a communal area of some kind, or a post box that others might have access to?
I also asked if I could change the address they are sending the log book to. They said that to do that, I would have to pay £25 again.
You've applied for a V5C in your name at that address. If you want one at a different address, then - yes - of course you need to apply again.
I'm actually pretty shocked and hurt by this treatment, I paid them the fast track money so that I could have the book well in advance.
Again, there is no "fast track". DVLA say to allow four weeks for any V5C requested by post.

A V62 may be slower - if it's due to a keeper change (because you've never been registered as keeper before), then they need to contact the currently registered keeper and ask them if they have any objections.
I've had repairs done to my car since then and I can't log them.
    <scratches head>
What exactly are you expecting to receive...?

The "log book" isn't a service history. It's a four-page (two double-sided sheet) A4 document that shows who the keeper of the car is, and basic details about it. No more than that.

I also find it a bit concerning that they have sent 4 logbooks out now and have lost all of them, and didn't track any of them.
Now think about how many they send out in any given month... Why are yours special? Clue: Any issue is probably at your end, not theirs.

Are you actually talking about the V5 (c) or the servicing log book that came with the car that has date stamps for its 6,000 mile service etc ?

When next you ring DVLA check that they actually have your correct address.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I bought the car from a Lookers, they said that the log book was in the post and they set up the tax when I bought the car.
Its getting close to a year when I could really do with this information incase there is trouble with tax.

I've attempted 4 times over the course of a year.
I have checked the address with them each time, and I have all my mail sent here. I certainly have not had a problem with car related letters elsewhere.

I didn't get a log book when I bought the car, and there was no V5c or anything, and I bought it from a Lookers garage.

I can't accept fault for this, when fines and speeding tickets are sent to my address just fine but documents aren't, you'd think theyd at the very least be ok to send the documents to another address.

Again I paid £25 in January for them to send me it quickly, within 5 working days. They failed, and sent it again.

Even if I wasn't moving, what am I supposed to do? Just accept them failing to send me the documents forever? They can't even agree to send it to a different address since they fail with this one every single time.

And for people saying I shouldn't be stressed, why not? This stuff bums me out. I hate paperwork and i hate it when I'm at risk of spending more money on crap that isn't my fault.

Yes, you will need either the V5C or a V11 (normally sent out about a month before the tax is due) to tax it.

If you look at https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ when was the last V5C issued? When is the car taxed until?

    That's not what I asked.
    What have I paid for?
A replacement V5C, colloquially known as "the logbook". That red-fronted double-sheet A4 leaflet. Nothing to do with noting repairs.
I didn't get a log book when I bought the car, and there was no V5c or anything, and I bought it from a Lookers garage.
You don't get give the V5C at sale - the vendor notifies DVLA, who send it out to you.

Have DVLA confirmed that you are the registered keeper for the car?

    but documents aren't
Like I say - how many do DVLA send out? What's so special about yours...?

    No, that's how frauds happen...
Again I paid £25 in January for them to send me it quickly, within 5 working days.
No, you did not. They try to send V5Cs out within 3-6 days for online keeper changes. For postal keeper changes they say 4 weeks. For V62s, there is no time given.
Even if I wasn't moving, what am I supposed to do? Just accept them failing to send me the documents forever?
    ARE they failing to send?
They can't even agree to send it to a different address since they fail with this one every single time.
If the failure is in them sending, why would a different address make any difference?
And for people saying I shouldn't be stressed, why not? This stuff bums me out. I hate paperwork and i hate it when I'm at risk of spending more money on crap that isn't my fault.
You should have addressed this a month or so after buying the car.

£25 is the standard fee for a replacement V5C. There is no 'fast track', if you are the current registered keeper the issue of the new V5C can take about a week.
As in the earlier post, if you are not the current registered keeper, it can take up to six weeks, as the DVLA will write to the current registered keeper for agreement to the transfer and wait for a reply before changing the details and issuing the new V5C.

It is taxed until June 2020. MOT expires in March however, which makes me slightly nervous.

Yes, Lookers confirmed they had informed DVLA, and they confirmed that they had sent it.
    I didn't get it.
And yes, every fine and the speeding ticket I got this year was on this car, which I believe is the same address DVLA would have used.

I'd expect frauds also happen by consistently losing documents too, but idk.

This isn't a problem with keeper. I am definitely registered as the keeper and the tax thus far is in my name.

I tried? I went to the vendor, and I went to DVLA immediately. The title of this topic is about how they keep losing it in the post, despite me not having trouble elsewhere.
I mean, they could have sent it more than 4 times had I asked them, although I'm beginning to think that it wouldn't have helped.

I suppose I must ask what would you do in this situation? It's getting close to a time I was trying my best to avoid.

Yeah I'm the registered keeper, I just rang them up about this again and agreed to wait until Saturday, as the latest one they sent should get there no later than Friday.
They confirmed the address was correct.
I'm also concerned about not having the document used for repairs and MOT.
I tried to be as proper as possible with this, as I was scammed by a second hand dealer for 3k earlier in the year and I've also been dealing with a claim on that.
Nothing ever seems to work out easy

On the DVLA where you check whether a vehicle is taxed - https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax look down the page for the bit entitled "Date of last V5C (logbook) issued"
