Well, fair enough - I just thought it might help if you needed to appeal, showing their initial claim of it being empty was false. But evidently in the real world PayPal and eBay are less interested in protecting sellers, alas.

One other thing to remember is that most business sellers and private sellers who prefer not to queue at the PO use online postage, and many services don't actually have a weight stated, just the weight band. Mine for instance show parcels as being either up to 1kg or 1-2kg and yesterday I had a parcel that was 150g and nothing shows on the label at all and my manifest which basically is my receipt includes it as a parcel up to 1kg.

Yes, true. I was still thinking specifically in the context of special delivery, with it being described upthread as being high risk for a scam (presumably due to the high value) :)

My special delivery doesn't have a weight on it either .

Oh right! Is that because it's not done at the Post Office, or something else?
  • I think if I was selling something worth 20,000 I would take it there myself. And many companies do have their own vans they would use for such a delivery, whether or not pertaining to an eBay sale is a different question, but I know jewellery shops that have their own vans.

Mine is done online, I can get a receipt at the PO if I want to queue but they just scan my bar code and don't reweigh it.

The common scam (so far) seems to be that buyers claim they received an empty parcel - so showing the weight then clearly shows you didn't send it empty and covers you.
Unfortunately another scam is a seller sending an item of the correct weight and substituting it for something else. So someone buys a 300g Iphone and they receive 300g of pebbles or whatever.
