I definitely will be over budget. We just got a meat delivery for £37.07. I've spend another £55 in LIDL and Morrisons. On Monday, we still have to pick up the Cheeseboard and a few essentials. So, that will take me way above budget. And there are still 4 more days to go after christmas!

Just keep fingers crossed that I can keep it as low as possible!

Ok, I am going to try the challenge. I reckon I have been spending on grocery shopping around £300 per month - a stupid amount seeing as there are only two of us. The problem is shopping at Waitrose as it's only a 5 minute walk away and we don't have a car. My OH is a tad too comfortable with getting a few tinnies in of an evening - time to crack down! We seem to haemorrage money and are always skint so really want to put some effort into taking control of the situation.

Starting the week before Christmas may not seem like the perfect time but if I can get the shopping bill down this month then it bodes well for the rest of the year!

Got all my christmas food shopping for the week today, plus some store cupboard items.

Xmas day treat from M&S (chocolate pudding) - 4.99
Xmas day veggie roast from health food shop - 3.75
    Big Aldi shop -21.00

Total for Christmas week - £45 (I've added on 11 quid for hubby to have a christmas drink, and sundry items like pint of milk etc).

If I keep going at this pace I've already brought my monthly bill down to £180, and I'm sure i can reduce it even further once christmas is over.

I am going to aim for £180 grocery shopping for January and see how it goes. It's a lot less than the estimate of £300 I'm doing at the moment but I don't think I'm being unrealistic in this instance. Just swapping waitrose for aldis slashes the bill by about half!

JoJoB welcome, I started in December last year, like you have said if you can make cut backs now, you can do it any time.

    MrsMCawber,

Somerfield have two big bottles of Robinsons sugar free blackcurant and apple for £2. They're usually £1.70-£1.80 ish each in Asda and Tesco.
  • well the last of th shopping is done i may need milk before the next tesco sho arrives but fingers crossed i will get by. i have come in a bit over budget and under budget lol.
I had originally set it at £300 thinking i had most of my food, but with offers on and my incapability to pass by an offer i upped it back to the £330 i had been using and i have some in about mid way so i am happy, and still have plenty of items ready for January. my January shopping arrives on the 29th Dec & 2nd Jan at an estimated £180 ish without all offers taken off but that is all the main food items needed for the month

good luck to you all and have a fab and safe Christmas and new year. S

See you on the January thread. xx
    Still Trying :o

  • So I had another few bits and bobs to buy yesterday and today. Haven't totalled it exactly but came in around £12 which def takes me over budget. Ah well considering it's Xmas I'm not going to beat myself up about it. And we resisted the urge to eat out tonight as well so :)

Will be my last post for a bit, heading to the land of no pc :) Hope you all have a great Christmas and will be back before the New Year

BTW for anyone who doesn't know, avoid M&S at all costs. Popped in today and it was a bit scary!!

Well I am hopeful of coming under budget as I haven't much else to get except milk and bread for the rest of the month. Delivery from Mr. T. on Wednesday last came to £144, but that included the Christmas booze at £21 and beef ( 2.8 k for £8.37) and Gammon (1.8k for £8.00). We're not having a turkey this year as we have turkey steaks throughout the year. Updating my siggie I've taken out all the Christmas specials to calculate the how much to carry over for the 4 days in January before the next fortnightly shop. I've included the booze as it is stuff that I don't normally buy, and anyway my booze budget is well over (hic) so that will do nicely thank you

DW is more cheerful today as she is looking forward to family visiting tomorrow. :j

Welcome JoJoB, you will certainly benefit from the advice from this thread, even the younger ones seem to know what they are doing. I like the sound of your OH, but what I say is "A little (lot) of what you fancy does you no end of good" :). Mind you I would make 'im pay for it out of his own pocket.

If everyone who is on the list and wants their total posting when they are finished would like to post their final total maybe something like

    I'm finished and have spent..................

As long as it's seperated by a paragraph or something it'll save me sorting through all the posts to find the final amounts or posting wrong amounts...

Then I will update the list as we go along :D

Oh and because I am stupid/mad/insane/skint until tomorrow I am finishing the Christmas shopping tomorrow, I must be mad...
One day I might be more organised...........
