If we add to our order they shouldnt be allowed to delete our Turkeys as surely when they agree an order the shop has the stocks available ( Usualy if I amend my order nothing is missing off of the original order)I can check with the confirmation email that it was on it, but when I went to amend my order it was missing? My delivery is due tonight, all !145.00 of it!. But now that the car has suddenly become a money pit, then I think thats the last order for a while....I will let people know when I do, if it really is there, as Tesco Email said it would be? Interesting (and panic) moment.

2 birthdays on Christmas eve, what were the odds on that one? Happy birthday to the little Bees.:bdaycake:

I have no idea, just seemed weird that it's the 2 who amended the orders from that group who haven't got one.

I don't think I would dare risk online orders for Xmas meats, I get my meats from the farm shop anyway, if I didn't use them I would order from a butchers, hopefully he'll phone me tomorrow to say when my order will be ready to collect (at the earliest) and ask when I would like to come in as he does every year.
One day I might be more organised...........

When I used to run my pub, I got all my meat from the local butcher, but here, I havent found a butcher any where near where I am living. Somebody may know of one, but I havent found one yet.
Now that my arm is bad, and I am off work, I cant carry so even if I do find one, I cant carry it home on the bus. It would be easier if I had my car back, maybe I could find one I could drive too). Mean while, carless (and armless, practically)I have relied on Tesco to deliver.....:o

Could be worth a google search or a ring round from results on yell.co.uk in your area, you might find one who delivers. I just found this by googling 'butcher deliver oxford'

I'm glad I'm not the only one belfastgirl! Hope your 1st loaf is a good 'un :D I'm not allowed to open my breadmaker till xmas day! :(
Will hopefully pick up the yeast later today & must try to resist buying anything else while I'm there! :o :rotfl:

Cheers sweetpea. Tried it tonight (decided to start off with pesto bread). Pretty easy to use and cooked exactly like it said in the instructions. Only problem was it didn't taste of much. Have another lot set to go on in the middle of the night (to be ready first thing) and I'm using double the salt recommended and haven't loosened up the pesto with olive oil. So fingers crossed.

Just about to do a search now to see if maybe it's common practice to add more salt :) Or maybe I'm just a salt fiend.

    good luck with yours.

How much salt are you using  ?? I think too much can kill the yeast

I dont have a BM... but make mine by hand and use 1 teaspoon of salt for 500g of flour
  • hi nopot thanks for the speedy reply :) the recipe said 3/4 of a tsp to 350g flour and 50g polenta. I've upped it to 2 tsps. I know it sounds like overkill but it didn't even taste of much to me and I don't have esp salty tastebuds. DH on the other hand adds loads of salt to everything so he thought the bread was inedible. Do you think it will kill the yeast? too late now anyway I guess :) but at least I'll know for again.

***edit I checked the indexed collection (god bless whoever did all that work) and I think you are probably right nopot and I'll end up with 'a salty brick' to quote another poster. Ah well. will report back and let you all know anyway. Good night for now. Blooming freezing here, fingers are nearly numb as I type**

Oh has just been out and spent £7.71, so I'm about to add that to my total. I have refused to pay him for the things that weren't on the list like lamb stock cubes (we don't have any lamb in anyway!) and bay leaves which are already in the cupboard, hmmmm.

Edited to add that I have just introduced him to the shopping money jar. Any money left over from the weekly shop will go in the jar. If he wants anything midweek, he can try the jar. If there's no money in it he can do without or pay for whatever it is himself :rotfl:

    Hi there Belfastgirl

I have always used more salt than stated in recipes too...i find there is no taste otherwise..and i rarely use salt on anything else for myself, so its not because i have a thing for salty stuff.

I use 2tsp to 500g flour, when i used to use a BM i used to have to put the liquid in the bottom , then the flour on top and then i would put the yeast in one corner and the salt in the other... that way the yeast has chance to get coated in flour before it gets near the salt -and it helps protect it.

I did hear a baker say that he never adds the salt until the bread dough is nearly mixed as it rises better..but i had to stick the salt pot on top of the BM so i didn't forget to add any...

now i make it by hand i never have a problem...

  • Thanks Mrsmac and nopot...I think the second more salted version is def better altho still don't feel I've got it right, still it's bound to take more than 2 goes. Gonna have another try just with regular bread today. At least the texture is right which is the bit I always had trouble with before...
