In our house (1970-95), for hot water, we didn't have an immersion tank. Upstairs we had a big gas geyser mounted above the bath taps. In the kitchen we had a small water heater mounted above the draining board, which I'm sure was also gas.6

Found it on the "look at this". Nearly £1m in St Albans, what could go wrong? I suspect the car in picture 3 is included in the price.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I was scared of the big bath geyser as a small child. When you turned on the hot tap, the burners lit up with a whoosh! and so I refused to sit up the geyser end of the bath.
Interestingly, geyser, spelled geysir, is Icelandic for their hot springs that jet out of the ground.(I just lurve spiders!)

OH and I had a gas geyser in our first flat. It was pretty scary as the pilot light tended to blow out. I sometimes wonder how we survived to old age! The gas fire in the bedroom was ancient. It had gorgeous tiles all round it - wish I'd taken a photo. Suspect it was the original fire from when the house was first built. Somewhere around 1900 at a guess - the local Unitarian Church on the same road opened in 1899.

Nothing coming up this morning.... mostly flats. Those that aren't flats are mid terraces and/or in places I've no wish to be.
One bungalow popped up in budget this morning.... trouble is it's been on since April 2019 with three agents, slowly dropping from £340k, to £330k, to £315k and now £298k. Its garden's north though. No garage/no side drive. No conservatory. So the only thing it has going for it is: Bungalow, in budget. Not even the right area; it's in an area designated as "only if something truly nice looking comes up and can tick most other boxes except preferred area".5 -
For some reason the do-er up-er got a lot of hits.

"270ft long and 52ft wide"
You could easily get 15 houses in there.
