I was just casually browsing property in Lydd, and it strikes me that property prices are well within your budget.
But nobody's ever heard of it :)
I nearly viewed one today.  I had one lined up, but, instead of just arranging a viewing I took a drive by ... well, you can't drive by it, so I drove into it's little "behind the houses bit" to view it.  Complete deal breaker.
2 parking spots, tandem. The boundary of which is tight and marked only by a thin strip of differently coloured block paving.  Then, the other side of that invisible boundary ... there were 2-3 gates into rear gardens of family homes (3 bedders).
Uh-ho... not for me thank you very much.  Those back gates will be kiddie fests with perpetual screaming access with an assortment of toys.

I got given a sheet in the estate agents of another, did a drive by of that one (again, 3-4 houses built behind others), then looked online when I got home to see why I'd dismissed it before... in part it wasn't an area of particular interest, but the real problem with it is orientation.  Back garden faces East and it's tight up against the boundary fence of another house so no southerly side strip or anything one could 'adapt' to being "the sunny spot" after 11am.

I was also offered one in the estate agents that isn't on the market yet. He said he could get me in early/that afternoon if I liked as he was there to measure up... been in the same family for about 50 years, parents both died. Daughter lives half there and half in southern USA and will fly off in March never to return... was I interested? £295k, it needed more work than I wanted or could afford, so that was a no.  Shame, but it really needed opening up at the back, a bit of rejigging and then the inevitable "hidden problems" you find in places where people've just lived their lives for XX decades.
