Memory card if your phone has one installed and your laptop has a memory card reader.

Too slow to reply, glad you got it sorted.

I copied to the memory card and with the phone plugged into the laptop, just copied from the card to my laptop.
    Thanks for your help.

Of course it is, because as explained it isn't running Android 2.3.7 or lower. 4 >2

I'm late to the party, but I think you could have just connected the phone to the laptop, and copied direct from the source folder to the laptop, without the step to copy to the SD card.

That's the best way imo as I don't want all the WhatsApp images I receive in my google photos folder

They should automatically have been uploaded to your Google photos.
Check in Google photos app and look for Whatsapp album. I have hundreds in there.

that was a problem for me as I get a lot of rubbish in Whatsapp......had to turn off back up in whats app settings
  • That's true it would of been easier, was just thinking my old HTC used to take an age to copy images/videos to PC so was quicker to transfer to a memory card.

Thanks, yes I realise I could have done that but if they are on the sd card as well, it's another backup but thanks.

Android phones running OS 4.0.3+ and iPhone models running iOS 9+ will still be able to use WhatsApp.

Smartphones running Android version 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) or iOS 8 and older will lose support.

I don't think I have Google photos app on my phone. I load as few apps on my phone as possible as it tends to mess it up.
