That's what I have never liked about those baths, you have to sit there naked and cold whilst it fills and drains.
It never mentions that in the adverts! Obvious when you think about it, but I do wonder if some people commit to one of these without realising this major downside.
I guess for some it's an easier option than a wet room

Perhaps that is why when you see the magazine ads for these baths, the woman is always wearing a swimming costume,  :D:D

    Holy moly! n

I’m only a skinny wee thing but that looks small even for me, but then I love to lay in a bath.

Thingy will be along in a minute to tell us that’s how the Japanese have been doing it for years and it’s all fine.
In the latter phases of the second shogunate, Tokyo's population went through a period of rapid expansion.  A great number of peasants moved to the city seeking higher paid employment in the burgeoning Artisans' District, where myriad small workshops had sprung up making ceramics and paper ornaments.  The district was fairly small, geographically speaking, leading to a great increase in population density.  Many families lived in single rooms, meaning that cooking and washing amenities needed to be made as compact as possible.  A popular way of increasing floor-space was to turn the bath on its end and to wash standing up.  Water was provided by a cistern mounted near the ceiling, with an outflow pipe to direct it.  The innovative new style of cleaning was called 'Shao-Ah' in the local dialect.
Fantastic!  If I had been told that at school, I would have believed it.  Instead, I had to use Google to find out that 'Shaoah' means capability, strength, impressive personality!
