Yikes! and the supports in pic 3, presumably to stop the celling from falling down.
Though it doesn't look that bad, apart from the visible hole.0 -
I was wondering that. Those what looks like temporary supports and the stairs blocked off suggest the upper floor is rotten and unsafe. That looks like a roof off back to bare brick renovation?Patr100 said:

Have to disagree, there, sorry; no way those bits of wood are structural. They look to me like rather half hearted battens for an as yet unbuilt partition wall. If you look at photo 2, there's a doorway immediately adjacent to the one leading to the strangely battened middle room. I reckon there was a plan to remove the partition wall presently standing and enlarge the oddly narrow rearmost room by bringing the back wall out level with the other door. Presumably the other side would have had similar treatment, creating two larger rooms and a central passage to the kitchen from three small rooms.Patr100 said:

Sad to see a property in this condition and realising that someone was living like this.

Sadly, that's how my late sister would have ended up if we'd let her.Tiglet2 said:Sad to see a property in this condition and realising that someone was living like this.

We could only launch 'operation clean-ups' when she was in hospital, as she wouldn't have let us through the door otherwise.
According to her, "only dirty people have to clean up after themselves".2 -

Experienced similar. Some people can be very resistant to help, even when they have to wade through the debris to move about.Silvertabby said:
