Depends on how far away from the shower the WM is, you can have a WM in that room.

Only if the socket is 3M from the shower and I don't think that room is big enough.

In the walkthrough you can see there is a door at the bottom of the stairs.  Can't be pleasant sleeping next to the boiler though.

You do see boilers situated in bedrooms in older properties,  presumably for necessary venting outside or when there is  not enough space in the kitchen. At least boxing it in would have helped.
but looks like they've got a fridge/freezer as well as the microwave in there - possibly renting it out?

There's nothing hugely noteworthy about a boiler being in a bedroom. If you really think it's going to "blow up", why would you be in the house at all?!

We have a boiler in our bedroom cupboard (previous owners moved it to make space for a walk in shower).

Doesn't bother us in the slightest. The heating isn't on at night so we don't hear it. 

I never realised that some people consider it abnormal before visiting this forum.

I wouldn't think it abnormal in a cupboard, there was one in my late mother-in-laws house, but I don't think it would be a nice think to look at exposed as this one is.  You are right it could be quiet at night unlike the fridge and freezer
