Curiously, I’d rather not have the whole building to look after. The flat is a good size at 200 sq m and we really don’t need more space.

Fair enough!  But I'd rather have the 1st and 2nd floors than the ground or lower ground floors.   I bet there's an amazing lounge and bedrooms up there.

A bit too much pink for my taste, but not too far from the coast. In the same area, found a 4 bed property, also with a pool, and only €85,000 https://www.green-acres.pt/en/properties/35144a-37399.htm - Quite a bit cheaper than your €295,000. Does need a little bit of work though.
