Seems like that's a feature (intentional or not) of at least one other property a few doors along.
See streetview (the previous one seems to have some kind of metal plates/pins inserted?

According to streetview, three of the houses in that row have tie rods securing the front facade. A couple of adjacent properties appear to have been rebuilt (different colour bricks). A indicator of some serious structural problems in the area ?

 I love the stairs & the rounder look upstairs landing, BUT the lounge has not enough windows, it doesn't look into nextdoors windows as there isn't any.......so why?
