Wow! That takes a level of arrogance to make a sweeping judgement about the entire population of the UK, every single one of the 67 million you have met, to know that none of us aspire to better.[Deleted User] said:Dandie89 said:
I agree that modern manufacture is not of the quality of years gone by but the reason we have the same design is probably because they are perfectly adequate for the job. 25 years as a nurse has given me a pretty good grasp of the necessary hygiene and infection control required for everyday life and I would like to reassure you that this area of your person, which is neither generally presented to the public nor in contact with food prep areas, does not require anything more than is generally practiced. The basic ones are about £1300, but TOTO are a luxury brand.. In Japan you can get them for around £500 from other manufacturers.
You can also buy a basic one and fit a seat with the bidet built in. Panasonic used to sell them here, and other brands still do.
The main issue is that they need power. UK regs make that difficult in a bathroom. Maybe why we are stuck with 19thb century bogs.
I think this is a constant problem in the UK. People just accept things as they are, don't even aspire to better. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

I'm not sure what is uncomfortable about our present practices but as far as the environment I doubt using toilet paper, which can after all be sourced from recycled, could really be worse than ripping out perfectly good toilets, sending them to landfill and replacing with something that uses both more water and energy. If you are worried about the paper thing may I suggest a bodna which many more people learned to master during the great toilet paper famine of 2020.[Deleted User] said:
It's not so much about hygiene as comfort. We could all live just fine without many of the things invented in the last century, like the internet, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't aspire to a better quality of life.
The reduction in the use of toilet paper is good for the environment too.

They aren't rubbish. In recent times a certain amount of prejudice has built up about coloured bathroom suites, but it's misguided. The coloured stuff is much better built than anything you can buy on the mass market today. They used thicker ceramic in those days and heavier weight fittings. The fact that so much remains in existence today is testament to the quality.[Deleted User] said:
Who would pay £640 for a cheap, rubbish toilet that looks like it's made of yellowed plastic that's been left in the sun for too long?hjd said:
For that kind of money I'd expect at least a decent toilet, even if I didn't agree with the colour scheme. It looks like the kind of thing you find in public conveniences.

I'm sorry for your predicament but you are best off starting a new thread. This thread is for people who find interesting things on property websites.greensalad said:Supposed to exchange early December.
Then supposed to exchange before Christmas.
My solicitor has gone on annual leave without telling me she was.
My sales progressor has gone on annual leave too, and the person she gave me to replace her won't respond.
I can't get an update on what the hold-up is.
Everyone says they'll be back on the 4th January. We are supposed to be completing 10th January.
We are homeless on the 24th January.
I feel sick and close to tears. I don't understand how this has happened. We have been ready to exchange since mid September and our chain completed mid July. Why won't anyone pull their finger out and actually DO something? I feel like I'm screaming against a brick wall.
Why do you expect to be homeless on the 24th of Jan? I really hope you didn't hand in your notice to your landlord. If so best try to get the landlord to allow to to retract that asap. Never give notice on a rental until you exchange. You cannot backtrack without agreement from the landlord. "supposed to be completing" doesn't mean much until you exchange.1 -
Sorry, I thought this was the waiting to exchange thread, I submited on the wrong thread. As you can tell I'm very stressed haha. Feel free to delete your comment as I've removed mine!MaryNB said:

The floorplan for upstairs is bizarre. They have a giant landing area that screws up the rest of the layout, forcing the 2nd bedroom to be tiny. Also note how the estate agent lied and put down 3 bedrooms.
The photo of the parking space (just one!) features an electric i3, nicely demonstrating how it's impossible to charge such a vehicle.1 -
There's something interesting about that place, but it's hard to put a finger on what exactly. Looking at Streetview shows that it's part of a complex of similar buildings located on a private road. There's even a barrier to close the place off, although it's open in all the photos.[Deleted User] said:https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/82665381#/?channel=RES_BUY

The buildings themselves are something of an oddity. They are supposed to be neo-Georgian but look more like workhouses; not the best for those living in them. I assume they were purpose built as dwellings, which is typical of modern building but these aren't that modern. There are other adverts showing interior decoration going back to at least the seventies.
I'd be most concerned about some of the wiring. It looks extremely old in places. Something else that's odd is the interior decoration of the flat up for sale. Some of it is very modern, but they don't appear to have bothered with other rooms at all!1 -

If that wall the car was facing was the apartment for sale, it might be possible to install a charging point?1
